Staff Software Engineer (Job ID 1277) Business Unit: Draeger Medical Systems, Inc. Location: Andover, MA Function: R&D Work Location: Hybrid Employment Type: Permanent Job Responsibilities Draeger Medical Systems, Inc., Andover, MA seeks Staff Software Engineers to design, develop, enhance, and maintain complex software components and subsystems supporting clinical and healthcare software products. Responsibilities include performing software development in C, C++, VC++/MFC/COM/ATL, C#.NET, Java, and Objective‑C; working through the full software development lifecycle (requirements analysis, system and software design, implementation, build and deployment, verification and validation, release planning, risk analysis, and configuration management); defining and contributing to the architecture and design of real‑time and distributed clinical software systems; ensuring reliability, performance, and scalability; implementing and supporting healthcare system interoperability and secure data exchange; developing, integrating, and validating secure communication mechanisms (TLS for unicast and custom secure protocols for multicast); designing, optimizing, and automating clinical workflows across imaging, patient monitoring, and integrated hospital systems; coordinating and leading software engineering activities through technical guidance, design and code reviews, and mentoring; contributing to development and validation of clinical software features while complying with SOPs, FDA regulations, medical device standards, audit trails, requirements traceability, and post‑market surveillance; driving enhancement and modernization of existing software systems; planning and executing software verification activities (unit, subsystem, integration testing, defect analysis). Qualifications Requires a Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Electronics Engineering, Computer and Information Technology, or related field and at least five years of progressive post‑degree experience in software development involving C, C++, VC++/MFC/COM/ATL, C#.NET, Java, and Objective‑C; full lifecycle experience; design and architecture of real‑time clinical systems; implementation of healthcare interoperability and secure data exchange using DICOM, HL7, IHE, HIPAA‑compliant protocols; integration of secure communication frameworks; design and automation of clinical workflows; leadership and mentoring of engineering teams; experience with FDA software and regulatory compliance (21 CFR Part 11, IEC 62304, ISO 13485); audit trail, traceability, post‑market surveillance; legacy system modernization; engineering and reliability verification.
