This role requires strong clinical judgment, effective communication, and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary care team to ensure safe, therapeutic, and patient-centered care.SupervisesMay provide functional guidance to Behavioral Health Technicians or support staff (as assigned)Duties Include But Are Not Limited ToProvide comprehensive nursing care to behavioral health patients in accordance with established standards and policiesPerform patient assessments, develop nursing care plans, and evaluate patient outcomesAdminister medications and monitor patient responsesMaintain accurate and timely clinical documentationCollaborate with physicians, therapists, social workers, and interdisciplinary care teamsMonitor patient safety, manage crisis situations, and utilize de-escalation techniques as appropriateEducate patients and families regarding treatment plans and available resourcesEnsure compliance with hospital policies, Joint Commission, CMS, and state regulatory requirementsParticipate in quality improvement and patient safety initiativesOther duties as assignedKnowledge, Skills & AbilitiesStrong knowledge of behavioral health nursing principles and practicesAbility to assess and respond effectively to patients experiencing mental health crisesExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress healthcare environmentStrong critical thinking, decision-making, and documentation skillsAbility to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teamsEducationGraduate of a Registered Nursing program requiredExperienceBehavioral health or psychiatric nursing experience preferredAcute care hospital experience a plusCertificate / LicenseCurrent BCLS certificationCurrent Iowa RN license or compact/multistate RN license permitting practice in Iowa
