This role is an integral part of an active construction and commissioning team, responsible for installing, calibrating, and testing process control instrumentation, panels, and equipment. The technician ensures that automated systems and sensory devices regulating industrial machinery are installed correctly, operate safely, and perform efficiently. The position involves close collaboration with general contractors and design engineers to resolve technical issues during pre-commissioning and start-up phases in industrial environments such as manufacturing plants, power grids, and water treatment facilities.

Responsibilities

• Install and wire a variety of field instruments, including pressure, temperature, flow, and level sensors, as well as actuators, control valves, and electrical enclosures.
• Perform and witness instrument calibrations and loop checks to ensure reliable communication between field devices and Distributed Control Systems (DCS) or SCADA panels.
• Conduct field inspections of contractor work to verify adherence to design specifications, blueprints, and P&ID (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams) standards.
• Diagnose and resolve wiring faults, logic errors, and hardware malfunctions during construction and commissioning phases.
• Record testing results, as-built modifications, and calibration documentation in line with project and quality control requirements.
• Maintain strict compliance with site safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout procedures, confined space entry rules, and safe handling of tools and high/low voltage electrical equipment.
• Install, calibrate, and maintain automated systems and sensory equipment that regulate industrial machinery.
• Work with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and motor control systems to ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently.
• Collaborate with general contractors and design engineers to identify and resolve technical issues during pre-commissioning and start-up.
• Support quality assurance efforts by verifying that installed systems meet project standards and operational requirements.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on experience with installation and wiring of industrial instrumentation, including pressure, temperature, flow, and level sensors.
• Proficiency in calibrating instruments and performing loop checks between field devices and DCS or SCADA systems.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for electrical and mechanical faults, logic errors, and hardware malfunctions in industrial environments.
• Experience with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and motor control systems.
• Ability to interpret and work from design specifications, blueprints, and P&ID (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams).
• Knowledge of industrial automation and process control systems in facilities such as manufacturing plants, power grids, or water treatment plants.
• Commitment to strict safety practices, including Lockout/Tagout procedures, confined space entry, and safe handling of high/low voltage equipment.
• Capability to perform detailed documentation of testing, calibration, and as-built modifications in accordance with project and quality control guidelines.
• Background in electrical and instrumentation repair and maintenance in industrial settings.

• Familiarity with OCIP (Owner Controlled Insurance Program) project environments.

Work Environment

The role is based in a construction environment that includes both indoor and outdoor settings, with exposure to active industrial sites. The current work schedule is Monday through Thursday with 10-hour shifts and an 8-hour shift on Fridays, though this may change based on project needs. The position is part of an OCIP job and involves working with industrial automation and control equipment, including instruments, PLCs, motor controls, and electrical enclosures. You will operate in a safety-focused environment that emphasizes proper use of tools, adherence to high/low voltage safety practices, and compliance with site protocols.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of El Paso, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.
