Medical Assistant I Certified

The Medical Assistant I, Certified provides routine clinical and administrative support to providers and other health care team members in an outpatient clinic setting. The role works under the clinical supervision of the provider for patient care activities, and under the general direction of the designated manager/supervisor for non‑clinical responsibilities. Responsibilities Perform rooming and intake processes, collecting vital signs, height, weight, and data related to the patient's reason for visit. Collect patient and family data, including medical and social history. Review patient's current medication list, allergies and preferred pharmacy. Assist the provider as directed during treatments, examinations and procedures. Collect specimens and perform phlebotomy. Administer medications under the direction of a provider. Perform tests (e.g., EKG, eye exams) under the direction of a provider. Review the patient record to determine whether the patient requires any routine health screenings. Ensure exam/procedure room contains appropriate supplies, equipment, forms and educational materials. Provide patient with after‑visit, follow‑up, self‑care or procedural instructions and/or educational materials as directed. Prepare, clean, stock and maintain exam and treatment rooms. Clean and sterilize instruments. Assist with patient registration, check‑in/check‑out, appointment scheduling, scheduling of tests and treatments, and referrals. Answer clinic telephone and assist in‑basket under the direction of a provider or nurse. Assist in emergency situations as directed by a provider or nurse. Other Information Education Requirements None required as long as other qualification criteria are met. Completion of a medical assisting program accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES is strongly preferred but not required. Licensure/Certification Requirements Medical Assistant certification by AAMA, AMT, CCMA, NRCMA, or NCMA. Basic Life Support Certification from AHA or ARC. Professional Experience Requirements Prior medical assistant or externship experience preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to perform the essential functions of the position as outlined above. Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to engage positively with patients and families and work as a team with staff and providers. Ability to use a computer to document required information into the electronic medical record.
