Infection Preventionist

Seeking candidates for a full-time Infection Preventionist. The position will report to the Chief of the Office of Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAI). The role includes serving as a subject matter expert for infection prevention and control. Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in nursing, public health, microbiology, clinical laboratory science, medical technology, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred. Experience as an infection preventionist in acute care infection prevention is required. Candidates should possess broad knowledge of infection prevention in congregate care settings. Previous experience in hospital-based Infection Prevention and Control programs is preferred. The ability to plan, implement, and evaluate infection control practices, policies, and procedures is crucial. Candidates should be able to perform on-site assessments in healthcare and congregate facilities. Strong technical skills in word processing, spreadsheet development, and database management are essential. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, along with experience in reviewing and editing documents. Candidates should be able to organize and prioritize tasks efficiently. The position requires the ability to work independently and exercise strong judgment based on existing knowledge.

Responsibilities include providing infection prevention and control support and tracking activities to ensure alignment with objectives and milestones. Creating and updating standard operating procedures and protocols for related activities. Participating in strategic planning and developing ideas to promote infection prevention efforts. Conducting onsite and teleconference assessments in healthcare and congregate care settings. Completing summary reports of assessments with facility recommendations and disseminating them within two weeks. Following up with facilities to ensure recommendations are implemented. Providing education to licensing surveyors on infection prevention and control. Conducting infection prevention trainings on various topics using diverse educational formats. Providing consultation for outbreak investigations, particularly those in healthcare facilities. Interviewing healthcare facilities about risk factors associated with outbreak or exposure situations. Providing expertise in drafting, reviewing, and editing technical reports and infection control guidelines. Educating local health jurisdictions and providing resources and training to build infection prevention and control capacity. Evaluating research and evidence-based practices and incorporating findings into routine practice. Serving as the subject matter expert for general infection prevention and control practices. Willingness to travel as needed is required. Additional duties may be assigned as required.
