Job Title California Water Reuse Discipline Leader Job Description This is a strategic leadership position to serve as a Discipline Leader (DL) for California water reuse projects in our Water Reuse Community of Practice (COP). The DL will assist in developing creative approaches to the planning, design, and delivery of water reuse, drinking water, and wastewater projects in California during both the pursuit and delivery phases. The role also works alongside the Water Reuse strategy team to grow the firm’s technical capabilities in the industry, including professional society committee engagement and publication of technical papers. As a strategic member of the CDM Smith reuse team, you will support the proper application of treatment technology, grow our technical capabilities, develop team members passionate about reuse, and assist with sales and delivery growth. You will work with Practice Leaders, other DLs, and engineering and construction leaders to deliver innovative solutions while interacting effectively with clients, project engineers, and vendors. Location California – Statewide Responsibilities Provide guidance and coordinate with other subject matter experts on the delivery of water reuse, drinking water, and wastewater projects. Collaborate with the Water Reuse Practice Leader and sales staff to support proposals in response to Requests for Proposals, preparing and reviewing proposals as part of the technical review team for adherence to firm, industry, state, local, and federal regulations, and best practices. Meet with current and potential clients as needed to review their project needs. Perform and coordinate quality checks of documents for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, ensuring firm policies and practices are followed. Attend and present at conferences and symposia to contribute to the technical luminescence and visibility of the firm's products and services in collaboration with Practice Leaders, DLs, and sales staff. Provide technical guidance and training to senior, mid‑level, and junior staff working on reuse projects. Mentor staff and develop them for future growth within the discipline and firm. Supervise the work of engineers on project work and delegate as necessary. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree. 15 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required; the frequency of travel will vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree. Preferred Qualifications Professional engineering (PE) license preferred. Alternative delivery experience such as progressive design‑build is a plus. Skills and Abilities Comprehensive knowledge of California reuse regulations. Strong technical and business leadership. Expert knowledge of engineering principles of design. Expert knowledge of Microsoft business software (Excel, Word, etc.). Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Expert knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations. Travel Requirement 20% travel. Visa Sponsorship Not available.
