BUS MECHANIC

MechanicQualifications: Prior experience as a mechanic. Possesses the physical and mental ability, as well as driving skills, to operate and drive a bus safely and satisfactorily. Must pass a motor vehicle records (MVR) driving record check. Meets required physical examination. Holds a valid Commercial Driver's License Class B, Endorsements P and S that is valid for interstate driving and a Kentucky School Bus Driver Certificate or must obtain a valid Commercial Driver's License Class B, Endorsements P and S that is valid for interstate driving and a KY School Bus Driver Certificate within ninety (90) days of employment.Reports To: Director of Transportation, Assistant Director of Transportation, or Bus Garage ManagerSupervises: NoneJob Goal: To ensure all transportation vehicles are maintained in a high state of repair.Performance Responsibilities:Be familiar with and follow written guidelines, procedures, and directions from supervisor related to job responsibilitiesCompletes overhauls of: engines, transmissions, differential, and other component partsPerforms engine tune-upsInstalls tiresCompletes electrical repairs, body repairs, repairs on brake systems, steering repairs, and other necessary repairs to district vehiclesResponds to road service callsRepairs seats, glass, mirrors, doors and other components of a district vehicleMaintains regular attendanceFills in as a bus driver when directed by the Director of Transportation or designeePerforms other duties as assigned by the supervisorPhysical Demands:Lift floor to table up to 75 pounds/lift table to chest up to 50 pounds/lift table to overhead up to 40 poundsCarry up to 50 poundsClimb ladders up to 20 rungsPush/Pull up to 75 poundsMust be able to assist passengers when neededMust be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors presentTerms of Employment:Days per fiscal year: 245Salary Schedule: Classified Employees Salary Schedule, MECHFLSA Status: Non-ExemptEvaluation: Performance of the position will be evaluated annually by Director of Transportation, Assistant Director of Transportation, or Bus Garage Manager
