Sterile Processing Tech PRN

Baylor Scott & White Surgical Hospital Las Colinas – Sterile Processing Technician (PRN) We are seeking a PRN Sterile Processing Technician to care for and maintain all surgical instrumentation at Baylor Scott & White Surgical Hospital Las Colinas. Responsibilities Utilize appropriate PPE while decontaminating dirty surgical instruments with disinfecting chemicals recommended by manufacturers’ IFU. Maintain and inspect instrumentation, ensuring bio‑burden removal and functionality per IFU. Sanitize all instrumentation using both steam and hydrogen peroxide methods as specified in instrument IFU. Maintain operational supply inventory and implants to support smooth instrument room functioning. Maintain a log for each autoclave and Sterrad load, recording instruments processed. Qualifications Education High School diploma or equivalent. License CRCST through IAHCSMM/HSPA (1‑year) required and must be obtained within 6 months of hire. BLS preferred. Required Experience 2‑3 years’ experience as an Instrument Room Technician. Internally trained new graduate with certification within 6 months of position change is acceptable. Experience utilizing resources for cleaning and sterilizing instruments (IFU, AAMI standards, policies and procedures). Experience decontaminating instruments with detergents, disinfectants, and lubricants. Experience identifying instruments by description or specialty. Follows IFU, policies and procedures when cleaning, assembling, sterilizing and storing instruments. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Works independently with minimal supervision. Communicates and works effectively with all personnel, physicians, associated hospital departments, and outside vendors. Understands infection control related to decontamination and sterilization of instruments. Demonstrates understanding of flow from decontamination area to clean processing area. Knowledge and operates equipment (ultrasonic machine, automated washers, cart washers, sterilizers) according to IFU, and understands daily washer, biological and Bowie‑Dick tests. Knowledge of maintaining documentation for sterilizer and immediate‑use sterilizer. Follows manufacturers’ IFU when processing all instrument trays including vendor trays. Verifies cycle parameters and maintains proper documentation per AAMI and hospital policies. Knowledge of reading sterilizer printout. Demonstrates dependability and accountability.
