You will work to further MSP’s mission in accordance with our guiding principles in a leadership role that addresses the complex safety and case management needs of survivors of domestic violence (DV) and human trafficking (HT). MAIN AREAS OF FOCUS: Trauma‑Informed Domestic Violence Individual and Group Counseling; Leadership; Interdisciplinary Collaboration; Crisis Intervention; Safety Planning; LOCATION: This job is currently performing in a hybrid between remote and in‑person work in MSP’s shelter located in a confidential location in Westchester County, NY.
JOB OVERVIEW:
Emergency shelter is a critically important resource for survivors of abuse. The Bilingual Residential Clinician will ensure that each resident transitioning in and out of MSP’s shelter undergoes a supportive and valuable experience. The Residential Clinician will be compassionate, client‑centered, trauma‑informed, responsive, resourceful, and have sound critical thinking and problem‑solving skills. The role includes providing emotional support, facilitating healing, and meeting clients’ practical needs. Responsibilities include assessing individual needs, creating short and long‑term goals through each resident’s Goal and Action Plan (GAP), delivering crisis intervention and counseling, and collaborating with the shelter leadership team to evaluate and refine trauma‑informed protocols and best practices. What You’ll Do Provide private individual counseling sessions to adult and child residents. Conduct weekly support groups in collaboration with the shelter team, utilizing trauma‑informed practices. Assess day‑to‑day needs, develop safety plans, and provide crisis intervention and counseling as required. Offer expert guidance on assessment and case planning for all adult and child resident clinical/therapeutic needs. Collaborate closely with the Senior Director of Residential and Transitional Services, Associate Director of Transitional Services, Senior Residential Advocates and Residential Advocates to address clinical issues affecting all shelter residents. Answer MSP’s 24/7 hotline, providing information, resources, and assessing eligibility for MSP services. Participate in a shared on‑call supervisory rotation (overnights and weekends) for shelter coverage throughout the year. Attend shelter leadership meetings and regular staff meetings. Adjust work hours or take additional hours as needed to meet residents, conduct support groups, or attend meetings. Collaborate with agency staff on shelter operations to meet basic client and facility needs. Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations and public agencies, representing MSP at outside meetings and events. Collect timely and accurate service statistics; complete monthly/quarterly reports. Maintain thorough and up‑to‑date client records in accordance with agency file requirements. Other tasks as assigned by the Supervisor. Participate in monthly network meetings relevant to DV survivors and resources. Maintain strong connections with all MSP program areas, including Family Services and the Center for Legal Services. Gather and analyze statistics to monitor program effectiveness; draft reports for funders. Represent MSP at community meetings, coalitions, and outreach events. Participate in MSP trainings, committees, and interdepartmental meetings. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor. What You Bring You Must Have: Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred; licensure in social work, psychology, mental health counseling, or similar field a plus. Minimum of two years’ experience working with survivors of gender‑based violence, domestic violence, and human trafficking. Knowledge of trauma‑informed practice. Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to work collaboratively and on a team. Technology proficiency, including Excel, Apricot, and other web‑based platforms. Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to assess priorities, take initiative, handle multiple assignments, and meet deadlines. Passionate commitment to principles of anti‑oppression. Valid driver’s license and reliable, insured transportation. Two years of prior counseling experience. Experience in the field of domestic violence, human trafficking, or victimization; knowledge of trauma strongly preferred. Demonstrated strong leadership skills. Bi‑lingual English/Spanish required.
