Ophthalmic Technician

Minnesota Eye Consultants is hiring a full‑time (1.0 FTE) Ophthalmic Technician I for our Blaine clinic. This role offers advancement opportunities, on‑the‑job training, free courses for Continuing Education credits, and a healthy work‑life balance. Location / Schedule Monday‑Friday, 7:30 am‑5:00 pm. Occasional Saturday (1–2 times per year). Home base: Bloomington clinic with potential assignments at Blaine, Minnetonka, Minneapolis, and Woodbury. Position Summary The Ophthalmic Technician performs measurements and tests to supply physicians with the information needed for diagnosis and treatment. The role primarily supports ophthalmologists, but also assists patients for any qualified MEC provider. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Open exam rooms at the start of the shift, ensuring equipment is clean and ready. Obtain complete patient histories, including ocular and medical history, family history, allergies, and medications. Perform and document subjective and objective testing efficiently, covering history, visual acuities, lensometry, keratometry, visual fields, tonometry, A‑scan, B‑scan, fundus photography, refractive surgery work‑ups, and assistance with basic and complex procedures. Acquaint patients with office procedures and the purpose of tests. Assist in maintenance and calibration of equipment. Participate in ongoing education and staff mentoring. Stock supplies; clean equipment; close exam rooms at day’s end. Regularly communicate with Clinic Manager, MDs, ODs, and the clinical team. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. 1–2 years experience as an ophthalmic assistant or technician. Certificates, Licensees, and/or Registrations Required Basic Life Support within six months of employment. COA, COT, or COMT preferred, but not required.
