Associate Director – Clinical Trial Management Business Partnering & Category StrategyThe Associate Director – Clinical Trial Management Business Partnering & Category Strategy is an experienced procurement professional responsible for category management and sourcing activities supporting clinical trial management across Phases 1–4. The role partners with Clinical Development and other stakeholders to translate study needs, outsourcing requirements, market intelligence, and supplier capabilities into practical sourcing and supplier strategies that support cost, quality, speed, flexibility, and business objectives.Reporting to the Director – Clinical Development Business Partnering & Category Strategy, this role is responsible for assigned Clinical Trial Management categories, with primary focus on Full-Service Outsourcing (FSO), Functional Service Provider (FSP), and related clinical operations services. The Associate Director develops category plans, leads sourcing initiatives, supports supplier performance, and provides market and commercial insights within the defined category scope.The successful candidate combines clinical outsourcing knowledge, commercial judgment, analytical capability, and strong stakeholder partnership with a hands-on approach to execution. This role is hybrid 2-3 days in our West Chester, PA site.How You'll Spend Your DayBusiness Partnering & Category StrategyPartner with Clinical Development and Clinical Operations stakeholders to understand study requirements, portfolio priorities, outsourcing needs, and business objectives within Clinical Trial Management.Develop and maintain category strategies and sourcing roadmaps for assigned Clinical Trial Management services, including FSO, FSP, and related clinical operations support.Provide category and supplier insights to support business decisions, supplier selection, and outsourcing model considerations.Category Analytics, Productivity & Value CreationUse spend data, supplier insights, benchmarks, and market intelligence to identify sourcing, productivity, and value opportunities within assigned categories.Develop category-level value initiatives that may include rate optimization, demand management, supplier consolidation, resourcing-model improvements, and commercial standardization.Track sourcing outcomes, value delivery, and key category activities using established Procurement tools and reporting mechanisms.Strategic Supplier Management & Market IntelligenceSupport supplier segmentation, governance, performance management, and improvement activities for key CRO, FSP, and clinical operations suppliers within assigned categories.Maintain current knowledge of CRO capabilities, FSP/FSO operating models, capacity trends, pricing dynamics, and relevant clinical outsourcing market developments.Use supplier and market insights to identify alternative capabilities, improve sourcing decisions, and support supplier performance and continuity.Strategic Sourcing & Commercial EnablementLead or support sourcing initiatives for Clinical Trial Management services, including requirements development, RFx activities, supplier evaluation, negotiation, recommendation, and contracting support.Partner with Strategic Sourcing, Legal, Finance, Quality, Regulatory, and business stakeholders to develop fit-for-purpose commercial approaches and supplier agreements.Balance cost, quality, speed, flexibility, compliance, service continuity, and supplier capability when developing sourcing recommendations.Procurement Process & Capability SupportApply established category management, sourcing, supplier governance, and value-tracking practices consistently across assigned work.Contribute practical insights and lessons learned that improve Procurement tools, processes, supplier governance, and stakeholder engagement.Provide project leadership and subject-matter guidance to cross-functional teams and sourcing partners without direct people-management accountability.Your Skills and Experience7+ years of progressive experience in procurement, category management, strategic sourcing, supplier management, clinical operations, or related disciplines, with relevant experience supporting clinical development, R&D, life sciences, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, or other regulated environments.Experience supporting sourcing, category management, supplier governance, or commercial activities for clinical development services, preferably including CROs and FSP/FSO models.Working understanding of pharmaceutical drug development, clinical trial execution, clinical outsourcing models, supplier ecosystems, and relevant regulatory requirements.Demonstrated ability to manage cross-functional sourcing projects, analyze commercial information, influence stakeholders, and deliver measurable outcomes within an assigned area of responsibility.LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES & SKILLSExperienced category and sourcing professional who translates business requirements and market insights into practical procurement actions.Effective business partner who communicates clearly, builds credibility, and influences stakeholders within assigned categories and projects.Strong commercial, analytical, organizational, and project leadership skills with a hands-on, execution-oriented approach.EDUCATION & EXPERIENCEBachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred in Business, Supply Chain, Life Sciences, Finance, or related field.Master's degree with 5+ years of relevant experience, or Bachelor's degree with 7+ years of relevant experience.Prior experience leading complex projects or cross-functional teams preferred;
