Industrial Controls and Automation Technician

Location: South Bend, IN | Reports to: Maintenance Team Manager | Shift: 2nd or 3rd

You arrive for your shift at McCormick & Company, Incorporated—where we make flavors loved around the world—and head straight to the line that needs you most. A packaging cell is flagging intermittent sensor faults. You trace the issue through the Allen‑Bradley PLC logic, verify HMI statuses, and chase the signal across an EtherNet/IP network segment. With your multimeter and standard electrical test instruments, you validate power, check a prox switch, and replace a suspect photo eye. You update the test procedure you used, document your findings in the work order, and coach a teammate through the verification test so they can confidently repeat it next time.

Later, you support a planned PM on a filler—inspecting motor starters, verifying terminations in a high/low voltage cabinet, and confirming encoder alignment. A cross‑functional huddle digs into a recurring jam; you help root-cause the problem and recommend a control‑side improvement. Before shift end, you coordinate with an outside contractor on a small install, ensuring everything meets our standards and is captured for future reference.

• Diagnose, repair, and test industrial equipment and electrical systems, from power service and motor starters to PLC/HMI controls and industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, DH+).
• Work with electrical field devices (photo eyes, prox sensors, encoders, limit switches, and more) to restore reliable operation.
• Use standard electrical diagnostic tools to perform and document equipment tests.
• Update, clarify, and improve test procedures; help train others to execute them correctly.
• Execute preventive and general maintenance on production and facilities assets.
• Complete assigned work orders with thorough documentation of tests and results.
• Partner with cross‑functional teams in a High Performance Organization to troubleshoot, identify root causes, and recommend continuous improvements.
• Collaborate with external contractors for installations as needed.

• 3–5 years of plant maintenance experience.
• Ability to troubleshoot existing PLC logic, read electrical schematics, and work with PLC/solid‑state control instruments.
• Proficiency with test equipment (e.g., multimeters) and standard electrical diagnostics.
• Working knowledge of Windows.
