Women's Specialists of New Mexico is seeking a skilled and compassionate Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to join our OB/GYN team. This position performs obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound examinations and works closely with our physicians and clinical team to support high-quality patient care.

We are looking for a sonographer who combines strong technical skills with attention to detail, professionalism, and a compassionate approach to caring for our patients.

Essential Responsibilities

• Perform obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound examinations in accordance with provider orders, established protocols, and applicable professional standards.
• Obtain accurate diagnostic-quality images, measurements, and required documentation for provider interpretation.
• Perform obstetric ultrasound examinations to evaluate fetal growth, anatomy, position, development, and well-being as appropriate to the examination ordered.
• Perform gynecologic ultrasound examinations, including transabdominal and transvaginal imaging, as appropriate, to evaluate pelvic anatomy and structures.
• Review ultrasound images for technical quality and completeness before concluding the examination.
• Recognize findings that may require prompt provider review and communicate those findings in accordance with established clinical protocols and the sonographer's scope of practice.
• Accurately document examinations, measurements, technical observations, and other required information in the patient's medical record and/or imaging system.
• Explain ultrasound procedures to patients and respond appropriately to questions within the sonographer's scope of practice.
• Maintain patient privacy, dignity, comfort, and safety throughout the examination.
• Follow established infection-prevention, equipment-cleaning, and patient-safety procedures.
• Communicate and collaborate effectively with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, medical assistants, and other members of the clinical team.
• Maintain ultrasound rooms in a clean, organized, and appropriately stocked condition.
• Perform routine equipment checks and care in accordance with manufacturer and practice guidelines and promptly report equipment concerns or malfunctions.
• Maintain required certifications and complete continuing education requirements applicable to the position.
• Perform other related duties as assigned within the scope and responsibilities of the position.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

• Associate degree or certificate from an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program.
• ARDMS certification or eligibility to obtain certification within the timeframe established by WSNM.
• OB/GYN specialty certification through ARDMS preferred.
• Current BLS certification preferred or ability to obtain within the timeframe established by WSNM.
• Knowledge of obstetric and gynecologic anatomy, ultrasound techniques, terminology, and imaging protocols.
• Strong technical skills in operating ultrasound equipment and obtaining diagnostic-quality images.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with physicians and other members of the healthcare team.
• Professional, compassionate, and patient-centered approach to care.

Physical Requirements

The employee must be able to perform the physical functions necessary to safely perform ultrasound examinations, including:

• Standing and walking for extended periods.
• Frequent hand, wrist, arm, and shoulder movement while performing ultrasound examinations.
• Positioning and assisting patients as necessary for examinations.
• Lifting, pushing, pulling, or moving at least 20 pounds.
• Operating ultrasound equipment, computers, phones, and other clinical equipment.
• Maintaining the hearing, speaking, and visual acuity necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
