Shipping/Receiving Material Handler

Material Handler 2This is an individual contributor position responsible for receiving, unloading, and storing incoming product loads, inspecting finished products for damage and defects, and ensuring product tags are correct and material information is entered correctly. They will operate equipment used to move material including forklifts and pallet jacks. Incumbent will be responsible for identifying material and product being loaded and unloaded. Incumbent will be responsible for making recommendations to resolve any damage or defects found in products. Interact with customers and truck drivers, coordinate special handling resulting from inspection, general plant housekeeping, and working safely with the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).Essential Functions:Operate forklifts with the capacity to move up to 35,000 lbs. of material on and off flatbed trailers or box trucks when applicable.Communicating potential problems or needs with material to site leadershipInspect incoming material for proper venting and draining holes/lifting attachmentsInspect galvanized material to ensure it meets the quality standards, reject material that does not meet quality standards, and coordinate special handling for this materialMove pieces of steel and other material up to 50 pounds by hand from different locations in the plant and yardWhen otherwise under-utilized, the employee will be cross trained in various production departments to assist with general operations.Important Details about the Role:The ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divideProficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook and VCCMaxProficient at reading tags, bills of lading, and shipping and receiving papersStand 90% of a shift and work outside in extreme weather conditionsOperate forklifts, small hand toolsThe ability to communicate and interact with coworkers, customers, truck drivers, and management in a positive mannerPay attention to detail and follow work instructionsHigh awareness for safetyThe ability to work overtime to include weekends and potentially holidaysMust be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional resultsRequired Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):No DegreeZero (0) to (1) year of relevant experienceAbility to work with wood and small hand tools such as tape measures, saws, drills, riveters, and nail gunsAbility to become certified in operation forkliftsAbility to ensure that products meet quality standardsAbility to bundle, crate, box, and wrap products to be shippedAbility to load a truckAbility to operate computer to enter product informationAbility to lift up to 50 pounds frequently throughout a shiftHighly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:One (1) year of experience as a Material Handler 1Two (2) years of experience operating a forklift in a professional environmentAll qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, disability or protected veteran status.
