Energy Project Engineer - Civil - Buffalo, NY

Buffalo, NY is a strong Western New York market for utility infrastructure, renewable energy, and civil engineering, with continued demand for professionals who can support linear infrastructure, site development, permitting, and construction. The region offers a strong talent base for engineers with utility and energy project experience.

As a Project Engineer on Fisher's Energy Group, you'll lead civil engineering design for utility and renewable energy projects, including pipelines, transmission lines, solar and wind farms, substations, and Battery Energy Storage facilities. You'll work with multidisciplinary teams, utilities, renewable energy developers, and infrastructure owners to move projects from design through construction.

You'll have the opportunity to take ownership of technical design, support major infrastructure projects, and mentor developing engineers. This role gives you a mix of design, permitting, construction support, quality control, and project collaboration while expanding your experience across the energy sector.

What You'll Do

• Lead civil engineering technical design tasks for utility and renewable energy projects.
• Develop design plans, drawings, specifications, reports, and cost estimates.
• Provide technical support during construction through site visits, design clarification, and design review.
• Prepare SWPPPs and stormwater management designs in accordance with regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate engineering tasks with project scope, schedule, and budget and support project managers with schedules, documentation, and client presentations.
• Maintain accurate project records, including design documents, progress reports, and budget information.
• Ensure designs comply with state and local regulations, safety codes, and industry standards while providing quality control, direction, and technical support to project team members.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders and mentor junior engineers in project work and technical development.

What We're Looking For

• B.S. degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
• 10–15 years of civil engineering experience, preferably in utility or renewable energy design.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to obtain it.
• Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Experience with linear utility corridor projects.
• Experience with local zoning and planning reviews, DOT permitting, and NYS Environmental Quality Reviews (SEQR).
• Understanding of all aspects of civil design plan preparation and construction bid packages.
• Proven ability to deliver quality work through critical thinking, problem-solving, and sound judgment.
• Ability to own projects, prioritize effectively, and meet deliverables and deadlines.
• Strong collaboration, communication, integrity, respect, and active listening skills.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and respond constructively to feedback.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with MicroStation.
• Familiarity with the ORES permitting process.
• Experience with land development, utility, or renewable energy projects, including design and permitting.
• Experience with PADEP permitting and the local PA Township SALDO process.
• Experience providing technical direction, quality control, motivation, and mentorship to project team members.

Compensation + Benefits

Salary range: $100,000-$130,000

• Competitive compensation; actual pay varies based on experience, qualifications, education, and other factors and excludes the value of benefits.

Location Flexibility

This role is aligned to the Buffalo, NY market for utility infrastructure, renewable energy, linear corridor projects, civil design, and Pennsylvania permitting. Fisher may also consider strong candidates located near Rochester, NY; Canonsburg, PA; Syracuse, NY; Binghamton, NY; Ithaca, NY; Albany, NY; and Sugar Land, TX based on project needs, client alignment, team growth priorities, and business development opportunity.
