RN Neurology

The SMH Level 2 Registered Nurse on the 516 Neurology unit provides specialized nursing care to patients with neurological diseases such as stroke, epilepsy, Multiple Sclerosis, and Guillain Barre Syndrome. This role requires critical thinking and collaboration with an interdisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment. The nurse will utilize telemetry and continuous video EEG technology to monitor and treat complex neurological patients in a Joint Commission accredited Comprehensive Stroke Center and Level 4 Epilepsy Monitoring Unit. Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care to patients with acute and complex neurological conditions.
• Perform patient assessments and monitor neurological status using telemetry and video EEG technology.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, therapists, and specialty staff for patient care planning and treatment.
• Administer medications and treatments according to established protocols.
• Document patient care accurately in electronic medical records.
• Respond to emergencies and provide appropriate interventions.
• Participate in continuous education and maintain certifications relevant to neurological nursing.

• Active Registered Nurse license in New York State.
• Minimum two (2) years of nursing experience.
• Telemetry experience required.
• American Heart Association BLS certification.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced neurological unit.

• Experience working in a comprehensive stroke center or epilepsy monitoring unit.
• Familiarity with continuous video EEG technology.
• Experience with electronic health record systems such as EPIC.

• Work includes rotating shifts: day, evening, and night rotations.
• Weekend, holiday, on-call, and callback duties as needed.
• Charge nurse responsibilities may be assigned per unit needs.
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity neurological care environment.

• Rotating shifts including day, evening, and night.

• Approximately 48 hours per week, scheduled at regular time.
