Mechanical Technician II

We are seeking a Mechanical Technician II to support the safe, reliable operation and maintenance of natural gas facility equipment and measurement systems. This is a hands-on, field-oriented position responsible for inspecting, testing, maintaining, calibrating, and troubleshooting mechanical, measurement, instrumentation, and control equipment. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude, relevant field experience, and a safety-first mindset. This position works with a high degree of independence and may occasionally provide basic guidance to contractors or less-experienced employees.

Key Responsibilities:

• Test, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and calibrate: Meters and measurement equipment, Pressure regulators, Control and relief valves, Pneumatic control devices, RTUs, Electronic Gas Measurement (EGM) systems, Gas analyzers
• Perform routine maintenance on odorization equipment, including setting injection rates and documenting usage and concentration.
• Operate and maintain power supply systems.
• Identify piping, valves, and fittings using appropriate measurement devices.
• Install small-diameter instrument piping and tubing.
• Use testing and inspection equipment to verify and calibrate instrumentation.
• Operate and maintain in-line heaters.
• Perform routine equipment tests and inspections and recognize abnormal operating conditions.
• Verify electrical installations comply with applicable codes and standards.
• Write gas-handling procedures and maintain accurate reports and documentation.
• Assist with work planning and provide information used for budgeting activities.
• Occasionally direct employees performing routine measurement-related activities.
• Support additional operational functions as qualified, which may include electrical controls, equipment operation, measurement, telecommunications, mechanical maintenance, and operations technician activities.
• Follow all company SOPs, O&M manuals, safety procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 2 years of directly relevant training and experience.
• Strong mechanical, technical, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work with significant independence while contributing effectively within a team environment.
• Strong commitment to safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Proficiency with standard office software applications.
• Ability and willingness to assist with increasingly complex equipment, procedures, and assignments.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Associate degree in a relevant technical field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience with natural gas measurement, instrumentation, regulation, controls, or facility maintenance.
• Working knowledge of operations and maintenance practices used within natural gas facilities.
• Experience with meters, regulators, control valves, RTUs, EGM systems, gas analyzers, pneumatic controls, or related equipment.
• Interest in continued development toward a Measurement and Electrical Technician career path.

Work Environment & Schedule:

This is primarily a field-based/outdoor position, with some indoor work for training, meetings, reporting, and regulatory documentation. Candidates must be:

• Able to work outdoors in varying and potentially challenging weather conditions.
• Available for overtime, weekends, shift work, on-call/standby assignments, and overnight travel as required.
• Currently residing within, or willing to relocate to within 30 miles of the assigned reporting location.
• Comfortable working in an environment governed by Department of Transportation and other applicable regulatory requirements.

Physical Requirements:

• Lifting and carrying objects weighing up to approximately 50 pounds.
• Grasping, kneeling, reaching, repetitive motion, sitting, and standing.
• Walking across outdoor, uneven, and occasionally slippery terrain.
• Entering and exiting excavations.
• Climbing and descending ladders, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and similar equipment.
• Reading screens, fine print, equipment markings, and color-coded information.
• Meeting applicable visual and hearing requirements for safe field operations.

The strongest candidate will be someone who is comfortable working hands-on in the field, understands the importance of safe and reliable natural gas operations, and can independently troubleshoot and maintain mechanical, measurement, and instrumentation equipment.
