Registered Nurse RN

The Registered Nurse at SUNY Stony Brook University Student Health Services provides comprehensive nursing care including vaccinations, clinical testing, triage, and patient education. This role involves administering immunizations, performing diagnostic tests, managing minor injuries and chronic conditions, coordinating care, and maintaining compliance with health regulations. The nurse collaborates closely with healthcare providers to ensure effective, team-based care and supports public health initiatives within the university community. Responsibilities:

• Administer a full range of vaccines and maintain immunization records in compliance with state and university requirements.
• Conduct vaccine clinics, mass immunization events, outreach campaigns, and follow-up for incomplete vaccine series.
• Perform point of care testing including strep, flu, mono, urinalysis, and pregnancy tests.
• Draw blood for lab work and collect specimens for STI screening.
• Administer and read TB skin tests and perform hormone therapy injections and other prescribed treatments.
• Perform comprehensive nursing triage both in person and via telephone for acute and chronic conditions.
• Conduct full nursing assessments, develop care plans, and provide independent care for minor illnesses and injuries.
• Respond promptly to urgent or emergent situations and escalate to providers as needed.
• Provide wound care, splinting, nebulizer treatments, vital signs monitoring, and ECGs.
• Assess and support management of chronic conditions such as diabetes, asthma, and ADHD.
• Communicate lab results and follow up with patients as requested by providers.
• Coordinate care and referrals for students with complex or chronic health needs.
• Administer prescribed medications via oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal routes.
• Monitor medication reactions and educate patients on medication use.
• Manage medication inventory and maintain cold chain for vaccines.
• Educate students on communicable disease prevention, self-care, and health maintenance.
• Participate in communicable disease surveillance, state health reporting, and outbreak control.
• Maintain accurate, confidential electronic health records in compliance with HIPAA and FERPA regulations.

• Active Registered Nurse license in the state of New York.
• Minimum of 1 year nursing experience, preferably in occupational health or related clinical setting.
• Clinical skills in immunization administration, phlebotomy, point of care testing, and medication administration.
• Strong nursing assessment, triage, and care planning abilities.
• Excellent communication and patient education skills.
• Knowledge of federal and state health regulations including HIPAA and FERPA.
• Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) documentation.

• Experience working in university or occupational health settings.
• Familiarity with communicable disease surveillance and outbreak management.
• Additional certifications related to immunization or public health nursing.

• Must adhere to strict confidentiality and privacy regulations (HIPAA, FERPA).
• Ability to manage mass immunization clinics and outreach events.
• Work environment includes clinical and public health settings within the university.

• Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
• Standard daytime weekday shifts with no weekend or night shifts indicated.
