Pricing Manager

Overview Purpose Expand the firm’s pricing capability for complex legal matters, including those with tech and AI-assisted delivery components. Act as a recognized expert in complex matter pricing, providing insightful, expert guidance to partners and senior stakeholders. Contribute as a key member of the global pricing team, taking ownership of the development, analysis, and review of commercial proposals for high-value, multi-jurisdictional, or technologically advanced matters. Support fee proposal submissions through relevant governance committees and disseminate pricing intelligence across the firm. Lead the development and embedding of advanced matter pricing capabilities across the firm, including those related to GenAI-assisted delivery and AFAs/value-pricing, by continuously developing tools, best-practice guidance, governance, training and hands-on support. Develop an in-depth understanding of the firm’s range of legal products and services to inform and shape innovative pricing strategies for each product type. Responsibilities Manage personal workload effectively by working with colleagues to maintain a prioritized schedule of requirements. Contribute to the continuous development of the team through knowledge sharing, peer support, and feedback. Collaborate as part of a multi-disciplinary team to respond to GenAI-related matter pricing opportunities, creating commercial proposals that are compelling for both the firm and clients. Produce bespoke financial modelling for complex matter pricing and maintain accuracy under pressure. Provide financial modelling support and plans for negotiations or competitive bidding processes (e.g., e-auctions) to protect the firm’s interests. Develop and maintain off-the-shelf pricing models for common requirements of complex matters to improve response times and standardization. Project manage the financial aspects of complex matter proposals, ensuring timely stakeholder engagement and adherence to RFP/proposal timetables and negotiation requirements. Oversee fee proposals through internal approval processes via governance committees and improve pricing governance processes. Input into drafting matter terms to ensure commercial aspects are captured; develop standard wording and maintain precedents. Track commercial changes from initial quote through negotiation to final terms and ensure alignment in final terms. Ensure proposals comply with client terms and record divergences for approval. Maintain quality control of outputs and high accuracy under pressure, with oversight of requirements. Provide commercial insights and challenge in advisory capacity to influence Partners. Negotiate directly with clients when required, including travel to offices in local or overseas jurisdictions. Ensure agreed fee arrangements are captured in firm systems and collaborate with lawyers, project managers, and billers to implement bespoke processes. Develop best-practice reports and visualizations (e.g., Tableau) to highlight trends in matter pricing and share with the global pricing network. Be acknowledged as a global expert and drive continuous improvements; monitor emerging trends in pricing, technology integration, and market shifts. Promote knowledge sharing and provide recommendations to internal stakeholders including pricing committees and the wider finance function. Identify training needs and deliver training to help lawyers and business teams make pricing decisions confidently. Support on pricing projects or initiatives across the pricing team, wider finance function, or firm; assist on client-level pricing during peak demand. Develop and refine pricing strategies for a wide range of legal products, including GenAI delivery models. Excellent modelling and data manipulation skills; strong numeracy under pressure. Confident verbal and written communication skills for partner consumption. Management experience and negotiation skills; strong financial reporting capability. Strong IT skills including Excel and finance systems; excellent project and time management. High degree of commercial acumen and understanding of how businesses operate and decide. Understanding of B2B fee structures and the firm's range of legal products and services to inform pricing strategies. Salary and Benefits The base salary range offered for this role is between $136,500 and $154,000 and reflects the firm’s good faith estimate at the time of posting. Actual compensation depends on experience, performance, qualifications, degrees, location, and firm needs.
