Maintenance Technician II

This position provides services in the Public Services Department, which consists of Parks, Streets, and Sanitation. The role encompasses all aspects of the maintenance department. It involves maintaining the Town’s streets, alleyways, parks, grounds, buildings, green spaces, fields, and common areas for Town-owned property and/or facilities to provide a safe and aesthetically pleasing environment. The employee works under the supervision of the Public Services Superintendent. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. It is not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the classification. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such functions are a logical assignment to the position. Completing projects that are part of your day-to-day tasks assigned by the Public Services Superintendent, in addition to any extra tasks given. Mowing, weed eating, and edging of all land owned by the Town. Repair, installation, and reading of meters. Maintain records relating to inspections and maintenance activities. Minor computer work related to checking emails and meter reading equipment. Maintaining equipment and tools by checking and cleaning them before and after use. Make necessary repairs and alterations to the water distribution piping under the supervision of a licensed water operator. Drive town trucks in the day-to-day operation of the town, loading, unloading, and hauling equipment and materials. Conform to all safety regulations, completing all tasks in a manner that is safe to oneself, one's co‑workers, and the public. Perform labor activities involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew or individually, pavement cutting, ditch digging, manhole and line cleaning, laying, and backfilling. Operating hand tools and power tools. Be on a rotating on‑call list, responding after regular business hours to town emergencies. Operate heavy equipment that includes tractors, zero‑turn mowers, and backhoes. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Ability to perform any and all maintenance of the Town of Lake Hamilton and properly document maintenance performed. Ability to communicate in a courteous and comprehensible manner with coworkers and supervision, both verbally and in writing. Ability to work safely, in compliance with all safety regulations. Ability to operate power tools, heavy equipment, trucks, and hand tools. Ability to do limited computer work, Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Outlook and Meter reading software). Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time in various weather conditions including heat, cold, and rain. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff members, supervision, and public. Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions. Ability to do basic math, addition, subtraction, division and multiplication. Ability to work unsupervised throughout the day, while still accomplishing assigned tasks. Ability to properly maintain tools and equipment used during the workday, identify potential issues, and promptly notify Public Services Superintendent. Handle stress effectively without it interfering with performance. Minimum Requirements/Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Prior experience in maintenance and/or construction. Must be willing to learn. Demonstrate a positive attitude. Other Requirements Must be 18 years of age or older. Must possess a valid State of Florida driver’s license. Must pass a physical examination and drug urinalysis test. Must not have been convicted of a felony. Must be able to work weekends and nights. Must be fluent in the English language; ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus. Must pass a background investigation in accordance with applicable laws and Town policies. Licenses/Certifications CDL Class B License with Airbrake Endorsement. Physical Requirements This position is physically demanding and requires frequent use of the hands, arms, and legs to operate tools, handle objects, and perform tasks. The employee must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl as needed. The role requires regular use of hearing, talking and smell, along with vision abilities including close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, as well as the ability to adjust focus. Employees must frequently lift and move up to 50 lbs. to 100 lbs. Work is generally performed in outside weather conditions such as rain, cold, heat, wet and/or humidity. The employee must be able to work in an environment that has vibration, high/precarious positions, occasional fume/airborne particle exposure. The employee may have to work with toxic and/or caustic chemicals and the risk of electric shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
