RN-Critical Care Float Pool-Weekend Nights

Job Summary Registered Nurse (RN) for the Medical Surgical Float Pool at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital. Provide comprehensive nursing care, assessment, plan development, and interdisciplinary coordination for patients across multiple medical‑surgical units. Job Responsibilities Perform and document comprehensive nursing assessments and reassessments for admission, transfer, and post‑op patients. Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans using assessment data, lab results, physician orders, protocols and evidence‑based practice. Collaborate with the healthcare team to coordinate daily care plans, communicate hand‑off reports, and provide patient and family education. Administer medications and monitor IVs, blood products, and parenteral nutrition; accurately document all interventions. Apply and monitor restraints in accordance with procedure; document all restraint use and associated care. Deliver pain management, education, and discharge planning while respecting cultural and spiritual beliefs. Conduct abuse assessments, report findings, and implement safety measures as required. Clarify, transcribe, and verify physician orders; document “read back” and telephone/verbal orders per policy. Recognize changes in patient condition, initiate appropriate nursing actions, and utilize chain of command when necessary. Participate in infection control bundles, fall and skin‑injury prevention initiatives, and daily quality checks. Document and communicate changes in patient condition; evaluate effectiveness of care. Engage in continuing education, performance improvement, evidence‑based practice, and professional development activities. Qualifications Active Registered Nurse license in the state of Missouri (or equivalent state license as required by location). Basic Life Support (BLS) HealthCare Provider certification. Experience in medical‑surgical nursing and float pool roles preferred. Strong assessment, documentation, and patient‑centered care skills. Ability to work flexible schedule, including weekend shifts. Working Conditions Exposure to blood‑borne diseases, risk of accidents, emergency events, and irregular hours. Requires standing or walking for extended periods, lifting and transferring patients, and responding to unpredictable clinical situations. Physical Requirements Occasional prolonged standing or walking. Occasional lifting, positioning, pushing, or transferring patients. Occasional reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
