Academic Program Specialist (Curricular Support) - Curriculum Development and Assessment

Position Details The CUNY School of Medicine (CUNY SoM) located in the heart of Harlem, New York, is the only medical school in the City University of New York system and the only public medical school in Manhattan. Building upon 50 years of success as the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, the institution transitioned to the CUNY School of Medicine (SoM) in 2016. The CUNY SoM offers an accelerated BS/MD degree (7‑year program) and a Physician Assistant Master’s Degree (27 months program). Academic Program Specialist The SoM is currently seeking an Academic Program Specialist with a focus on planning, executing, and guiding academic support and clinical initiatives for SoM students. The Academic Program Specialist will support the school's faculty and students by assisting with curriculum development, organizing teaching materials, assisting with course logistics, and integrating educational technologies. Responsibilities Support and promote student academic success by coordinating the daily operations for all curricular and co‑curricular initiatives and academic department support programs; maintain and organize curriculum materials, teaching schedules, and course updates to ensure they are current and accessible to students and faculty. Assist with the administration of OSCEs and exams, including for team‑based learning, and manage course gradebooks; provide regular analysis and present course data to the Associate Dean to evaluate effectiveness and inform program improvements. Provide oversight and support for the integration of new tools and technologies into the curriculum to enhance the learning experience; collaborate with the Associate Dean to strategize and define annual objectives including learning outcomes, evaluations, and target audiences. Maintain course websites, help with exam administration, communicate with students, and present course data to support the overall academic operations of a medical training program. Act as a central point of contact for students, answering questions about course content and logistics, and assisting with digital content navigation. Maintain inventory of supplies, equipment and/or reagents. May order supplies, equipment, reagents as authorized or ensure that needs are escalated appropriately. Coordinate calendars and schedule appointments and meetings. Prioritize requests for meetings and coordinate the necessary arrangements for meetings; initiate and prepare written correspondence as needed and based on functional needs. Answer phones, respond to inquiries and triage calls to appropriate personnel; responsible for travel and conference arrangements. Organize itinerary, make appropriate reservations for travel and accommodations for curriculum related travel. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Associate Dean for Curriculum and Assessment or designee. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and four years’ related experience required. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree with 6 years of experience in and academic department in higher education. Knowledgeable understanding of important strategies of student success. Ability to understand and communicate research innovation, methodology and terminology. Experience in designing and implementing academic support programs preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word. Flexibility working with faculty, administrators, students and external stakeholders. Experience in project management. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet strict deadlines with changing priorities. Able to work evenings and weekends, as needed. CUNY Title Overview Participates in the daily coordination of academic and administrative activities of a college's specialized academic program under management direction. Supports program development, student service delivery, outcome evaluation and instructor/student recruitment, enrollment, and retention. Recommends, implements and evaluates strategies to expand program offerings. Prepares analytical and statistical reports for management. Develops and maintains relationships with various college offices to improve student and faculty services. Serves as resource expert regarding program policies and procedures. Oversees office record keeping; manages updates of program web and print materials. May supervise office operations and/or department budget. Performs related duties as assigned. Compensation and Benefits Salary Range: $57,252 - $90,838. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
