Production Manager

This role leads production operations in a greenhouse-based environment with a strong focus on LEAN manufacturing, continuous improvement, and efficient conversion of plant yield into revenue. The Production Manager oversees workforce operations, production planning, and inventory control while ensuring food safety, regulatory compliance, and a clean, safe, and well-organized facility.

Responsibilities

• Manage greenhouse workforce operations, including hiring, coaching, performance management, labor planning, workforce organization, and labor reporting.
• Oversee daily production activities to effectively convert plant yield into revenue through strong production planning, accurate reporting, and efficient use of resources.
• Plan and manage labor utilization to meet production targets while maintaining cost efficiency and productivity.
• Coordinate and optimize operational inputs and resources to support consistent throughput and demand planning.
• Oversee facility maintenance needs to ensure equipment and infrastructure support safe and reliable production.
• Maintain accountability for inventory control, including inbound and outbound shipments of production supplies and materials.
• Monitor and manage labor expenses, energy usage, and other operational costs to support budget and profitability goals.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives using LEAN methodologies and facilitate kaizen activities to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve productivity.
• Ensure compliance with food safety standards and maintain a clean, organized, and safe production environment at all times.
• Train employees on food safety requirements, best practices, monitoring procedures, and documentation standards.
• Collaborate with leadership and cross-functional teams to develop and execute operational strategies and business objectives.
• Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely procurement and availability of operational materials.
• Track inventory usage, including work-in-process inventory, packaging materials, personal protective equipment (PPE), chemicals, and other production supplies.
• Support growing and production operations by effectively allocating labor and resources based on changing needs and priorities.
• Develop, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety guidelines, and operational documentation.
• Complete routine inspection reports, food safety logs, and other compliance records accurately and on time.
• Supervise department leads and production team members to ensure performance goals, quality standards, and production targets are consistently met.
• Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement across all production teams.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience in production management in a manufacturing, greenhouse, or similar operational environment.
• Strong background in LEAN manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
• Hands-on experience with process improvement and implementing kaizen activities.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise and develop teams, including hiring, coaching, and performance management.
• Solid understanding of production planning, labor planning, and throughput and demand planning.
• Experience managing inventory control, including tracking inbound and outbound shipments and usage of production supplies.
• Ability to manage and monitor labor expenses, energy usage, and other operational costs.
• Working knowledge of food safety standards and requirements in a production environment.
• Ability to develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety guidelines, and operational documentation.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills to drive operational efficiency.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with leadership, cross-functional teams, vendors, and frontline staff.
• Ability to work safely around moving mechanical equipment and cleaning chemicals.
• Capability to perform frequent standing, walking, reaching, bending, kneeling, crouching, and climbing, and to occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working in greenhouse, agricultural, food production, or cold-chain environments.
• Familiarity with labor reporting tools, production reporting systems, and basic operational metrics.
• Experience coordinating with vendors and suppliers for materials planning and procurement.
• Background in managing work-in-process inventory, packaging materials, PPE, and chemical inventories.
• Comfort working in environments with moderate to high noise levels and varying temperatures and humidity.
• Ability to maintain clear, correctable near and distance vision and strong awareness of workplace safety hazards.

Work Environment

Work takes place across office, warehouse, cooler, and greenhouse environments, offering a mix of administrative and hands-on operational responsibilities. You will regularly experience varying seasonal temperatures, humidity, and environmental conditions, including time spent in cooler areas and around growing operations. The role involves exposure to moving mechanical equipment and cleaning chemicals, and moderate to high noise levels may be present. Time is divided between office-based planning and analysis and active presence on the production floor. Minimal travel may be required. The position involves frequent standing, walking, reaching, bending, kneeling, crouching, and climbing, as well as the ability to occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds. Clear, correctable near and distance vision and strong situational awareness are important to maintain safety in this environment. The operation runs both a night shift (6:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.) and a day shift (6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.), and the role will align with one of these extended shifts in a fast-paced production setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Warner Robins, GA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $43.00 - $53.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
