Job Description

The Production Assistant supports the efficient operation of the filling and packaging lines in a manufacturing environment on 2nd shift. This role focuses on assisting with product filling, packaging, labeling, and quality checks to ensure customer orders are completed accurately and on time, while following all policies, procedures, and food safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Assist in operating filling line equipment and packaging equipment to complete customer orders, including performing general inspections of products during operation and packing off finished product.
• Perform packaging tasks for finished products, including making corrugated boxes and partitions, packing finished product into boxes, manually sealing cases, labeling or stenciling finished cases with proper identification, and placing finished cases on pallets using pre-determined case placements.
• Make minor machine adjustments as needed to support smooth packaging operations, spending a significant portion of the workday on these packaging and adjustment duties.
• Monitor product cases to ensure proper weight, correct packaging components, and accurate operation of machinery, watching for film splices, breakage, and machinery jams and promptly reporting issues to the machine operator.
• Prepare the work area for production at the start of the shift and maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work environment throughout the shift, including placing damaged product packages into proper containers and discarding trash.
• Start and stop assigned production equipment during the shift in accordance with operating procedures and maintain daily reports documenting product, brand, type, and quantity produced.
• Support the SQF Program and promote food safety by maintaining good housekeeping practices in the immediate work area and contributing to an audit-ready department.
• Follow standard instructions, work effectively with team members, and communicate any issues or concerns that may impact production, quality, or safety.
• Perform general labor tasks related to production, labeling, packaging, and warehouse support as needed.
• Carry out other duties as assigned to ensure production goals and quality standards are met.

Essential Skills

• Ability to read and write to accurately complete various production reports and documentation.
• Ability to use sound judgment to monitor product quality and identify issues with packaging, weight, or machinery operation.
• Ability to understand and follow standard instructions, procedures, and safety guidelines in a manufacturing environment.
• Capability to work effectively with others as part of a production team.
• Manual dexterity, strength, and stamina to stand during an 8-hour shift.
• Ability to lift 30 pounds on a regular basis and up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
• Physical strength and dexterity sufficient to perform tasks involving intermittent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.
• Ability to occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds or more with assistance.
• Comfort working in production, labeling, general labor, packaging, and warehouse environments.

Job Type & Location: This is a Contract position based out of Chambersburg, PA.

Pay and Benefits: The pay range for this position is $18.87 - $18.87/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
