Job Summary Applies the nursing process to plan and manage the care of complex patients in a comprehensive manner. Recognizes complex learning needs and prepares individual teaching plans for patients/families and consistently demonstrates effective patient education to peers. Consistently ensures a comprehensive continuum of care plan in collaboration with the health care team. Demonstrates and role models effective communication and conflict resolution skills. Ensures evidence-based care and continuously monitors patient outcomes. Furthers professional growth by engaging in learning activities according to Board of Nursing standards. Floats across entities to fulfill requirements of the role. Assignment Details New structure allows alternative nursing employment at VUMC. Like a travel nurse, the Staffing Collaborative lets staff work 13‑week assignments within a specific unit. Assignment comes with premium pay and optional health benefits. Assignment duration fixed end date 10/17/2026. Locations: Vanderbilt University Hospital, Nashville, TN. Units: Floats between ICUs, Stepdown, and Med/Surg units. Shifts: Day shift (7a‑7p) $65/hr. Night shift (7p‑7a) $75/hr. RNs typically work 36‑40 hours per week based on unit needs. Key Responsibilities Collaborates in establishing the plan of care, coordinates and implements care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the continuum. Analyzes comprehensive information pertinent to the patient's care and management to determine nursing diagnosis. Continually utilizes the nursing process to evaluate patient's progress toward goals and applies appropriate interventions to ensure effective outcomes. Employs strategies to promote health and a safe and healthy environment. The responsibilities listed are a general overview of the position and additional duties may be assigned. Technical Capabilities Care Planning (Novice): Anticipates resource needs, prioritizes tasks, schedules activities, meets deadlines, and organizes work within direct responsibility areas while handling multiple assignments simultaneously. Nursing Patient Education (Novice): Provides patient education in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Nursing Patient Assessment & Evaluation (Novice): Assesses and evaluates patients, conducts interviews and physical examinations, and gathers pertinent clinical data to support referral or treatment pathways. Evidence-Based Practice (Novice): Searches for evidence to answer clinical questions under the direction of others. Core Accountabilities Executes job responsibilities with an understanding of how output would affect and impact related areas. Analyzes moderately complex problems using technical experience and judgment. Provides informal guidance to team members. Qualifications Registered Nurse required. Graduate of an approved discipline‑specific program (or equivalent experience). Minimum 1 year of ICU/Stepdown/Med‑Surg RN experience; preferred 2 or more years of recent experience. Certification: BLS, ACLS, and PALS. License: Registered Nurse – Tennessee. Strong communication and conflict resolution skills.
