Job Description

Shenandoah University's Department of Custodial Services is accepting applications for a custodian. This is a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our students, faculty, and staff. This is a full-time, benefited position located on our main campus in Winchester, VA.

We are seeking a responsible and diligent Custodian to ensure the pristine maintenance of our facilities. The commitment to cleanliness and order is essential, as the internal and external appearance of our buildings significantly reflects on the Shenandoah community.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced professional focused on facility upkeep, possessing the physical endurance required to cover a large area. Critical qualities for this role include a keen eye for detail and a diligent work ethic in all custodial maintenance tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain the building and grounds in a clean, neat, and safe condition, adhering to all company standards.
• Perform routine cleaning duties, including dusting, vacuuming, mopping, and cleaning restrooms.
• Utilize and maintain cleaning chemicals and supplies safely and effectively.
• Ensure all equipment is maintained and properly stored.

Required Skills

• Possess knowledge of standard cleaning methodologies and procedures.
• Ability to maintain physical activity, including standing, walking, and bending, for extended periods.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Meet the physical requirements necessary for essential job functions, including bending, lifting, pulling, reaching above the head, and moving light furnishings.
• Capacity to perform repetitive motions for prolonged durations.
• Ability to lift heavy objects, ascend ladders, and work at various heights.
• Experience in the use of cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, and chemical cleaning solutions.
• Familiarity with the handling, mixing, and application of cleaning chemicals.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety regulations.
• Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Dependability and reliability are essential attributes.

Required Experience

• Experience in the use of cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, and chemical cleaning solutions.
• Familiarity with the handling, mixing, and application of cleaning chemicals.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety regulations.
• Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Dependability and reliability are essential attributes.
