Project Manager - Heavy Civil Construction

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead heavy civil construction projects, including site preparation, underground utilities, drainage, demolition, and grading. The Project Manager will oversee project planning and execution, manage budgets and schedules, coordinate subcontractors and crews, ensure compliance with safety and quality standards, and maintain strong client relationships to deliver projects on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and manage all phases of heavy civil construction projects from pre-construction through closeout.
• Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and resource plans; track progress and implement corrective actions as needed.
• Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, equipment, and field crews; provide clear direction and prioritize work to meet milestones.
• Oversee site preparation activities including clearing, demolition, grading, and erosion control.
• Manage installation and coordination of underground utilities (sanitary, storm, water, telecom) and drainage systems.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, permit conditions, safety policies, and environmental best practices.
• Conduct regular site inspections and quality control checks; resolve technical and operational issues in the field.
• Prepare and review project documentation including RFIs, change orders, daily reports, and submittals.
• Communicate proactively with clients, engineers, inspectors, and stakeholders; provide regular status updates and address concerns promptly.
• Mentor and develop field and office staff, fostering a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Minimum 5+ years of project management experience in heavy civil construction, site preparation, or infrastructure projects.
• Proven experience with underground utilities, drainage systems, demolition, and grading operations.
• Strong knowledge of construction scheduling, estimating, cost control, and contract administration.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Familiarity with safety regulations (OSHA) and best practices in construction site safety.
• Proficiency with project management and scheduling software (MS Project, Primavera, or similar) and basic familiarity with AutoCAD or civil design documents.
• Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports.
• Valid drivers license; required travel to job sites and ability to work in variable weather and field conditions.
