Veterinary Assistant

Responsibilities Support veterinarians and veterinary technicians in ensuring quality veterinary care for all pets. Advocate for pets, educate clients on all aspects of pet health, and ensure a safe and effective hospital environment. Act as extra eyes, ears, and hands for the veterinarian and veterinary technician to maximize productivity. Communicate with veterinarian, veterinary technicians and other associates to maintain patient flow. Provide professional, efficient and exceptional service, including performing or preparing procedures that do not require veterinarian or veterinary technician assistance. Prepare for surgical procedures as allowed under state practice acts, and monitor hospitalized or surgical pets as permitted. Educate clients about Optimum Wellness Plans, preventive care, pet health needs, hospital services and other issues. Obtain relevant information and history from clients and maintain proper and complete medical charts. Ensure safety of pets, clients and associates using safe restraining techniques, following protocols, and maintaining clean, sterile and organized treatment areas, exam rooms and labs. Assist with surgery as applicable and utilize technical skills within state practice acts and NAVTA guidelines. Mentor other paraprofessionals in the hospital; perform other duties as assigned. Pay Range Hourly: $15.19 – $19.41 (rate determined by experience, skill level, education and location).
