Job Overview A law firm seeks a Patent Agent specializing in high technology to join their Intellectual Property team in Dallas, TX. This role involves performing complex client work with a focus on drafting patent applications and responses to the USPTO, supporting attorneys in delivering efficient legal services. Duties Prepare draft patent applications incorporating scientific aspects of inventions. Draft responses to communications from U.S. and foreign patent offices. Discuss scientific aspects of inventions with clients and provide reports to attorneys. Act as liaison between inventors and the Patent & Trademark Office. Evaluate and report on technological aspects of inventions. Advise attorneys on technologies and conduct investigations as needed. Draft, organize, and summarize documents. Conduct regulatory and factual research. Coordinate workflow with outside service providers. Identify and solve complex patent issues. Provide guidance to legal support staff. Stay updated on technology trends and patent prosecution issues. Requirements Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or electrical engineering preferred. Licensed to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office preferred. Strong investigative and problem resolution skills. Ability to communicate complex technical information effectively. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse individuals. Advanced oral and written communication skills. Ability to organize and prioritize tasks under time constraints. Knowledge of time management and project management strategies. Flexibility to work overtime and travel as needed. Education Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or electrical engineering preferred. Certifications Licensed to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office preferred. Skills Ability to analyze and interpret research findings. Operational guidance and leadership skills. Knowledge of patent documentation standards. Recordkeeping and procedural development skills. Independent judgment and confidentiality management.
