Senior Director of Research & Innovation

Abcam, a Danaher operating company, seeks a Senior Director of Research & Innovation to lead scientific teams in evaluating new business opportunities, conducting proof-of-concept studies, and establishing new product lines. The role combines strategic oversight with hands-on innovation leadership across the life sciences and diagnostics space.
Responsibilities
- Manage directors and group leaders across multiple scientific disciplines to establish new business lines and capabilities
- Evaluate and prioritize new business ideas through structured ideation and implementation processes
- Develop stakeholder relationships across organization to shape strategy and sustain competitive position
- Foster collaborative environment that rewards innovation, risk-taking, and creative problem-solving
- Drive creation of new revenue streams and solutions through cross-functional team engagement
Requirements
- Ph.D. in cell biology, biochemistry, biology, or related life sciences field
- 15+ years experience in industrial research and development environment
- Demonstrated scientific leadership with publications, conference participation, or editorial board service
- Experience developing strategy and monitoring execution against goals
- Proven ability leading global teams and setting performance standards
- Strong cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to translate complex scientific problems into end-to-end solutions for diverse audiences
Compensation: $163,500-$286,000 base; eligible for bonus
