Job Description Summary Peds Heart Center is a 29-bed unit ranked #4 nationally by U.S News and World Report and #1 in patient outcomes. It is also an AACN Beacon Award‑Winning unit and the referral center for all major pediatric cardiac surgery in South Carolina. The unit averages 28 patients per day and provides care for congenital and acute heart disease of all ages. Common procedures include cardiac surgery, ventricular assist devices, heart transplant, cardiac catheterization, and other cardiac‑related medical diagnoses. The unit offers ventilatory and cardiac support, ECMO/CRRT, and additional complex supportive therapies. Pediatric palliative care is available as needed. Staffing consists of registered nurses, patient care technicians, unit secretaries, respiratory therapy, pediatric dietitians, and pediatric pharmacists. All beds are monitored. Entity Medical University Hospital Authority (MUHA) Worker Type Employee Worker Sub‑Type Regular Cost Center CC000455 CHS - Heart Center - 3 (SJCH) Pay Grade Health-28 Schedule Hours per week: 36 Rotating shifts Compensation Hourly rate with a potential sign‑on bonus of up to $30,000 for external candidates with at least two years of relevant nursing experience, subject to a three‑year service agreement. Job Summary / Purpose Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse II provides individualized, goal‑directed patient care to families and patients at a competent level using nursing process principles and practices. The RN delivers safe and effective care and collaborates with other members of the health care team to achieve desired outcomes. Unit Description Same as the Job Description Summary paragraph above. Minimum Training and Education Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. Registered nurses hired on or after July 1, 2013, with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing must be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and obtain a BSN within four years of hire or reclassification. One year of work experience as a registered nurse is required. Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, either AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). The RN must also complete the unit’s specific nursing orientation program. Physical and Mental Requirements Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, working indoors and outdoors in temperature extremes, from elevated areas, in confined spaces, kneeling, bending at the waist, twisting at the waist, squatting, performing pinching operations, grasping, fine and gross manipulation, reaching overhead, repetitive motions, using both legs for balance and coordination, reaching in all directions, lifting and carrying 50 lbs. unassisted, lifting or lowering 50 lbs. from floor to 36 inches or overhead, exerting up to 50 lbs. of force, maintaining vision (20/40 corrected), hearing, gross and fine motor functions, dealing with stressful situations, rotating shifts, overtime work, latex‑safe environment, tactile sensory functions, olfactory sensitivity (selective positions), and respirator use (selective positions).
