Work Shift: 40 hrs. per week M-F Days Nights Weekends and on calls may be required. Work Location: University of Miami Hospital & Clinics - Imaging Services UTower.

UMH - IMAGING has an exciting opportunity for an MRITechnologist3 position. The incumbent is responsible forperforming complex procedures in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) through the operations of radiographic equipment to obtain highest quality of diagnostic judgementingenuityand initiative are essential in addition to responsibility for designated areasproceduresand equipment.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

• Obtains and examines the order for a MRI scan to be aware of information such as procedures requested patients condition and any other special notes or comments.
• Ensures that orders areappropriate tothe type of exam recommended by physician.
• Notifies supervisor of any discrepancies and/or contacts physicians office for correct orders if necessary.
• Identifiespatient service requirements byestablishingpersonal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand service requirements.
• Verify the patients ID by checking their name and date of birth on electronic medical record and patients wristband.
• Always obtain necessary consents and education.
• Perform complex specialized tasks associated with the operation of MRI scanners and related equipmentin accordance withprescribed safety procedures under the direction/supervision of a Radiologist usingage-appropriatestandards of practice.
• Ability to integrate diagnostic laboratory results patient history and medical records and adaptexamas necessary.
• Adheres to MRI protocols tomaintainhigh quality standards.
• Consistentlydemonstratescomplete competence in performing MRI scans as ordered.
• As required during a procedureassistspositioning patients in required anatomical position for display of body for MRI scans using immobilization and protectiveequipmentas necessary.
• Maintainproper aseptic techniqueutilizinguniversal precaution guidelines (hand washing gloves gown mask eyeprotectionand equipment disinfection).
• Assistradiologist with imaging procedures starting IVs and injecting contrast if applicable.
• Assistradiologist with interventional MRI procedures.
• Evaluate MRI scans for technical quality collate processed images in sequence of exposure and appropriately label. Film/transmitto PACS.
• Charge procedures and supplies inUChart/Radiant.
• Dispenses oral contrast to patients for MRI scans.
• Loads andoperatespower injectors for contrast media administration.
• Maintainaccuratepatient records.
• Gains patient cooperation by reducing anxieties; providing explanations of treatment; answering questions.
• Applies physical age-specific and/or developmental care needs of patients according to their documented physical/development requirement by competency validation checklist:ChildrenAdolescentsAdultsGeriatricChallenged/Disabled
• Performs basic nursing functions in the patients care bedpans emesis care for physical and psychological needs of the patient during scanning procedures; initiates life support measures for patients if necessary;assistsin Code Blue procedure during medical CPR as needed.
• Keeps work area in a clean and sanitary condition and stocks exam/dressing rooms with required supplies.
• Provides on call coverage.
• Reports unusual findingsin a timely mannertoappropriate Radiologist/Supervisorypersonnel.
• Schedule patients for procedures;assistwith clerical functions.
• Provide assistancewith orientation and training of new MRI technologists.
• Provides education and training to student technologists.
• Abide by hospital/department HR policies.
• Adheres to any regulatory body guidelines governing modality including but not limited to: Joint Commission AHCA ACR FL DOH and FDA/MQSA.
• Assistwith the day-to-day operations within the department.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of accredited Radiologic Technology /Diagnostic Imaging Program.
• CPR and BLS certificationrequired.
• ARRT registeredand ARRT Certified in primary modality orwithin one (1) year of hire date.
• State of Florida License as a General Radiographerpreferred.
• Five (5) years of relevant experience preferred will consider new graduates from accredited schools.
