JOB DESCRIPTION - Java Developer

Position Notes:

This contract-only position for a Java Application Developer who will be working on a project rewriting our SAP data flows in and out of the ERP, will be part of the SAP Financial Product Ecosystem (FPE) team. FPE is our core accounting processes and systems that integrate with accounting and financial reporting for our organization. Modernizing the FPE is the largest implementation of an FPE the clients history and there are over 30 individuals currently working on this initiative.

This individual will be part of the team accountable to achieve exceptional service functions including configuration, root cause identification, and solution recommendation. They will work closely with their teammates and business partners to fully understand the user functionality, pain points, and areas of improvements within our applications. Additionally, they will document current to future state SAP processes and role mapping of functionalities.

Hiring manager is looking for a team player with strong written and verbal communication skills. A candidate in this position is also expected to dig in and help out in whatever way the team needs. A strong ability and comfort zone to do non-development activities is required.

Hiring manager requires resource to work in a hybrid environment which currently means working 8-10 days in a month at our facility and being available for occasional off-hour on-call support.

Job responsibilities include, but not limited to:

• Collaborate with Product Owners, System Architect, and business partners to identify and elicit technology needs and work with the scrum team on identifying solutions.
• Help the Product Owner document the technology needs and acceptance criteria in user story format.
• Be an advocate for quality and testing on the agile team, ensuring content is testable.
• Develop and maintain technical and end user oriented documentation of system and business processes.
• Grow and maintain knowledge of products, plans, business processes, and system applications.
• Build and maintain business knowledge and strong relationships with team members, business users, other Securian teams, auditors, and vendors to help navigate through problems, decisions, and related implications.
• Assist with batch process resolution and escalations for the finance ecosystem to include setting up new jobs, updating jobs, and providing troubleshooting / root cause analysis.

Requirements:

• 5 + years of experience
• Java Development
• Rest and SOAP API
• SQL knowledge
• AWS (highly preferred) or other public cloud knowledge
• Finance/Insurance Industry experience will be needed to understand this type of data
• Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills, with experience working both independently, and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

Plus:

• Any SAP Experience (ABAP, HANA, etc.)

Required Skills : Project Scope: • Making changes on where they are converting data • Taking file sources, stripping out customer sensitive/private data, transferring them into SAP • Previously hired specific SAP developers, now need to bring in a Java developer to help convert/translate these files • Need someone willing to jump in and be motivated to work on anything - projects/responsibilities may switch around • Contract through EOY Team Size & Breakdown: • Team of mostly SAP developers, 2 current Java Developers High-Level Individual Duties: • Backend Java work - converting and translating private/customer sensitive files • Interacting with both REST and SOAP APIs • Working on SQL hosted in AWS Must-Haves (Concepts & Tools): • Java development skills • REST and SOAP APIs • SQL knowledge • AWS (highly preferred) or other public cloud knowledge • Finance/Insurance Industry experience will be needed to understand this type of data What Will Win: • Any SAP Experience (ABAP, HANA)
