Physical Therapist I

Summary May be eligible for sign on bonus up to $10,000 This position delegates responsibility to the Physical Therapist Assistant and Aides. Activities of this position are patient focused and utilize assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation in accordance with physical therapy standards, physician orders, and governing policies and procedures. Responsibilities Evaluates the patient’s function by performing formal/informal testing measures to determine the skeletal, neurological, respiratory, and cardiovascular status. Develops a goal specific treatment regime based on assessment data and the patient’s tolerance to carry out the treatment plan as prescribed. Submits a written treatment regime to be included as part of the plan of treatment authorized by and coordinated with the physician; updates the plan of care as needed and co-signs verbal orders received by the physical therapist assistant as necessary. Devises a schedule of treatment which is frequency and duration specific to be discussed with patient/family/caregiver and coordinated with clinical support staff. Educates patient, family, and/or caregiver regarding pathology or condition, patient alternatives, prognosis, and rationale for treatment through forms of rest, exercise, modalities, and other indicated interventions. Other Duties and Responsibilities Provides supervision for Physical Therapist Assistants, Physical Therapy Aides, Home Health Aides, and students per affiliate and regulatory standards. Recommends adaptive/supportive equipment based on assessment; contacts appropriate representative and/or supplier to place order and assists in securing equipment for patient. Documents the patient/family/caregiver response to treatment and changes in patient condition per affiliate documentation policies and/or standards and in compliance with regulatory agencies. Completes daily documentation necessary for billing procedures per affiliate policy and in compliance with regulatory agencies. Provides treatment intervention and demonstrates competence to facilitate or restore optimal functioning specific to the therapist’s patient care area. Educates patient/family/caregiver in a home education program using relevant and effective teaching methods. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication with all internal and external customers to maximize quality of patient care including coordination with interdisciplinary team members. Promotes education and development among staff, students, and other health care providers using relevant and effective teaching methods. Promotes process improvement and assists with program development. Participates in team conferences and interdisciplinary meetings as appropriate. Promotes physical therapy within MyMichigan Health and the service area, participating in and providing community education. Functions as case manager for assigned cases. Demonstrates commitment to MyMichigan Health and the specific affiliate mission as evidenced by customer service, quality of service, and teamwork. Maintains confidentiality of patient and affiliate information in accordance with MyMichigan Health and affiliate policies and procedures. Other duties as assigned. Requires competency in Microsoft Windows. May be required to participate in further learning opportunities offered by MyMichigan Health. Certifications & Licensures Physical Therapist (PT) Basic Life Support (BLS) – equivalent experience within 1 month of hire or transfer Required Education Bachelor’s Degree (Education: Bachelors Degree) Specialization: PT Experience, Training and Skills Successful completion of MyMichigan Health and affiliate-specific orientation. Successful completion of new hire competency. Current Michigan driver license and access to reliable transportation with the ability to drive under hazardous road conditions as necessary for specific patient care area. Interpersonal skills needed for effective verbal and written communication in the English language to interact with people individually and in a group at all levels. Ability to work independently, demonstrating problem solving, organizational skills, time management skills and initiative. Mandatory OSHA training required and must be completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan. Ability to work where employee may be exposed to communicable diseases. Ability to use personal protective equipment correctly. Ability to perform essential job functions with reasonable accommodation. Ability to demonstrate and teach selected treatment routines to appropriate professional and non-professional individuals. Physical/Mental Requirements and Typical Working Conditions Exposure to stressful situations, including public contact, trauma, grief, and death. Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitutes if required for the position. Is able to move freely around the facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description. Overall vision and hearing is necessary, with or without assisted devices. Frequently required to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time; may require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling, or crouching. Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infectious material; must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required. Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, maintain regular and predictable attendance, and remain alert. Overall dexterity required, including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering, and feeling; repetitive movements may be required regularly. Physical Demand Level: Medium – must occasionally (0‑33% of the workday) lift or carry 21‑50 lbs.; frequently (34‑66% of the workday) 20 lbs.; and constantly (67‑100% of the workday) #J-18808-Ljbffr
