Page Designer

Position Summary

Page designers are responsible for laying out the content of the newspaper in coordination with the editor or managing editor. In addition to design, the role includes writing headlines to fit, cutting stories to fit and writing teasers as well as limited copy-editing duties. Page designers also ensure deadlines are met by following an established workflow.

Key Responsibilities:

• Craft accurate and inviting headlines that catch the readers eye.
• Create well-designed, well-presented pages following established design styles.
• Follow the newsroom workflow to meet all deadlines.

Experience/Qualifications:

• Proficiency with InDesign
• Experience with WordPress or other content management system
• Comprehension of English language, grammar and punctuation
• Excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills
• Strong computer knowledge/skills
• Ability work nights, weekends, holidays and atypical shifts

Compensation:

This part-time position is expected to work about 15-20 hours per week during afternoons and evenings, though hours will fluctuate seasonally. Compensation is $20-$22 based on experience.
