Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA)

Under the direction of licensed nursing personnel, performs direct and indirect designated resident care within the scope of practice as defined by certification. The Certified Nurse Assistant must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development across the lifespan. Possesses the ability to assess data reflective of patient status and interpret appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to age-specific needs. Provides necessary care to adult and geriatric patient groups. Resident's activities of daily living (ADLs) needs are met as outlined in the plan of care and in accordance with policies and procedures. Includes hygiene, grooming, dressing, incontinence/catheter care, elimination/toileting needs, turning/positioning, skin care, etc. Documentation completed per protocol. Resident's environment and safety are maintained as outlined in the plan of care and in accordance with policies and procedures. Includes responding promptly to call lights and alarms, providing safety mats and low beds, and maintaining cleanliness of the unit. Behavior and fall prevention measures are followed, including the appropriate use of and monitoring for malfunctioning equipment. Documentation completed per protocol. Resident's nutritional needs will be met as outlined in the plan of care and in accordance with policies and procedures. Includes meal delivery, tray preparation, adaptive equipment, feeding, and honoring resident's preferences and choices. Documentation completed per protocol. Resident's rehabilitative needs are met as outlined in the plan of care and in accordance with policies and procedures. Includes range of motion exercises, ambulation, transfers, proper body alignment, and the use of assistive devices. Documentation completed per protocol. Resident's rights and concerns are reported to the Charge Nurse in a timely fashion in accordance with policies and procedures. Changes in resident physical, emotional, and psychosocial status are identified and reported to the Charge Nurse promptly. Occupational exposure to blood-borne pathogens is reasonably anticipated. Required tasks involve potential contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues.
