Maintenance Manager

The Maintenance and Safety Manager oversees maintenance operations and ensures safety compliance within our meat and seafood distribution facilities. The role maintains the functionality of equipment, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and fosters a culture of safety within the organization. This position requires a hands-on leader who can manage a team, execute preventive maintenance schedules, and implement safety protocols to ensure efficient operations and compliance with industry standards. Essential Functions & Responsibilities: Maintenance Management Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for all equipment and systems, including refrigeration, HVAC, packaging, and processing machinery. Monitor the performance of critical systems to ensure uninterrupted operation of the facility. Coordinate and oversee equipment repairs, upgrades, and installations. Manage relationships with contractors, vendors, and suppliers to ensure cost-effective solutions and timely service. Maintain detailed maintenance logs and ensure accurate recordkeeping. Evaluate and recommend improvements to operational efficiency by upgrading equipment or implementing new technologies. Manage maintenance and safety budgets to ensure cost-effective allocation of resources and expenses. Respond to after-hours emergencies as needed to minimize operational downtime. Safety Compliance and Management Ensure compliance with OSHA, FDA, USDA, and other applicable safety and health regulations within the facility. Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards. Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees, including proper handling of equipment, hazardous materials, and emergency response procedures. Investigate workplace incidents, analyze root causes, and develop corrective action plans to prevent future occurrences. Maintain and enforce safety policies, procedures, and standards across all departments. Act as the point of contact for external safety audits and inspections by regulatory agencies. Collaborate with other departments to ensure alignment between operational needs and safety requirements. Other Duties as Assigned Education, Training and Skills Required: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, Facilities Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience). Minimum of 6 years of experience in maintenance and safety management, preferably in the food distribution, meat, or seafood industry. Proven experience managing maintenance projects and leading safety programs. Hands-on experience with equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair, especially refrigeration and food processing machinery. Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, HACCP standards, USDA guidelines, and other food safety requirements. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities In-depth understanding of maintenance best practices and safety standards for food distribution facilities. Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration systems. Familiarity with regulatory compliance requirements (OSHA, USDA, FDA, etc.). Knowledge of safety management systems and hazard communication standards. Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for equipment and facility issues. Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Proficiency in using computer maintenance management systems (CMMS) and Microsoft Office Suite. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and lead training sessions. Ability to provide indirect leadership and motivate a team in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. Capability to analyze data, create reports, and make data-driven decisions. Ability to stay up-to-date with changes in safety regulations and incorporate them into company policies.
