UX Designer

We measure our UX Designer hires by the work that haunts us in the best way, and we're ready for someone in Chicago to keep us up at night. This freelance UX Designer role offers a $69,000 - $104,000 salary, real ownership over your work, and a clear path to grow alongside a team that ships.

Key Responsibilities

• Pair Customer Service craft with Motion Design thinking to solve fuzzy creative problems
• Borrow structure from film editing to fix a Persuasion sequence that drags
• Time the reveal in a launch film so the logo lands earned, not slapped on
• Bridge the Usability Testing vision and the Motion Design reality without breaking either
• Run the critique that makes junior creative work braver, not safer
• Storyboard and direct photo, video, and content shoots end to end
• Test and optimize creative variations through A/B experiments

What You'll Bring

• Professionalism, integrity, and discretion with sensitive information
• A Civic Innovation Lab mindset: scrappy today, scalable tomorrow
• Ability to learn new creative systems quickly and apply them effectively
• Proven track record delivering results as a mid-level UX Designer
• A Chicago grounding, or the adaptability to plant roots quickly
• Judgment seasoned by at least 5 years of real consequences
• The communication discipline to over-share early and trim later
