Physical Therapist Level II, Outpatient (Hyde Park Clinic)

Position Summary The Physical Therapist, Outpatient (Hyde Park Clinic) reports to the Rehabilitation Therapies Supervisor/Manager and conducts comprehensive assessments of in- and out-patients with physical and functional deficits. The therapist plans and implements individual and group physical therapy treatments to promote mobility, reduce pain, restore function, prevent permanent disability and restore independence using a variety of treatment techniques. The therapist collaborates with other disciplines to facilitate follow‑up care and a successful return to home and work environments. The role includes student training and participation in continuous education. Job Responsibilities Conduct physical therapy evaluation procedures according to professional and departmental guidelines. Respond to all consults within 24 hours, complete evaluation and documentation within 24 hours of consult. Review patient records, obtain physician orders, and select evaluation procedures that reflect diagnosis, abilities, and limits. Administer standardized tests, adapt procedures as needed, interpret results, develop diagnostic impressions, and provide recommendations. Perform re‑evaluations per departmental policy, and educate patients and caregivers about findings and care recommendations. Establish measurable short‑ and long‑term treatment goals in collaboration with patient and/or caregiver, modify goals as warranted, and assess discharge needs. Arrange appropriate follow‑up, implement comprehensive individual and group treatment, and progress patient treatment programs as needed. Recommend and issue appropriate assistive devices or durable medical equipment, ensuring proper fit and patient use. Develop and instruct home exercise programs for patients and caregivers. Maintain therapeutic relationships, engage patients, provide reinforcement and support, and set appropriate limits. Adhere to diagnosis‑related precautions, use good judgment, and seek assistance when necessary. Assign appropriate patients to assistants and aides, monitor clinical supplies, request replacements in a timely manner. Comply with departmental, institutional, and accrediting agency policies and standards. Complete area‑specific documentation accurately and thoroughly; maintain an average score of 95% or greater on each indicator. Complete patient care charges accurately and meet area‑specific productivity standards. Participate in peer review, mandatory requirements (PPD, competencies, safety/infection control tests, CPR, license renewal), and independent learning opportunities. Communicate learning needs to supervisors, stay current with advances through professional meetings and continuing education. Serve as a clinical resource for other health‑care professionals and supervise rehabilitation aides consistently with the State Practice Act. Assist in developing and evaluating physical therapy programs; collect data for research, quality improvement projects, and departmental initiatives. Provide patient education, conduct in‑services, and present evidence‑based topics to staff. Participate in supervisory meetings, set annual goals, and engage with departmental initiatives. Supervise and mentor physical therapy students, conduct performance evaluations, and provide training aligned with unit protocols. Job Requirements Minimum 3 years of experience as a licensed PT, preferred 1 year at BMC. Current Commonwealth of Massachusetts license. Current CPR certification. Interpersonal skills to interact with patients, families, and the health‑care team. Analytical abilities to evaluate patient condition, capabilities, and progress to develop appropriate treatment programs. Education Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate in Physical Therapy from an accredited institution; Doctorate preferred. Licenses, Certificates, and Memberships MP-certified physical therapist with membership in APTA and MCAPTA preferred. Compensation and Benefits Compensation Range: $34.86–$50.72 per hour.
