The licensed Radiology Technician performs all activities which enhance patient care and contribute to the organization and efficiency of the department. The Radiology Technician is expected to supply total radiographic support for the facility, performing routine radiographic procedures, processing radiographs, and performing various procedures as necessary to provide accurate diagnostic information to on‑site physicians for high‑quality patient care.

DUTIES

Operates stationary equipment for producing quality radiographs. Performs routine radiographic procedures and examinations in accordance with established standards and techniques. Determines the position of the patient and exposure time for the best possible results on all radiographs. Properly uses radiation protection and shielding material. Wears a radiation monitoring badge, assessed monthly for proper levels. Maintains closed doors to X‑ray rooms during examinations for safety of personnel. Performs processing of radiographs. Collects and processes patient specimens per lab protocol, including entering orders in MAPS or completing appropriate requisition and documentation. Performs EKGs as directed by physician/provider according to CV lab protocol. Performs PFTs, audio exams, and drug and alcohol testing. Checks all orders for accuracy and directions. Enters all orders for exams performed in MAPS and Radnet. Records type and number of radiographs and exposure time in the log. Completes and charges all exams as required in department‑specific software programs. Treats all information confidentially. Prepares patients for examination with assigned physician/providers following established protocol. Communicates procedures to patients to ensure they are well informed. Prepares and positions patients for examination. Maintains awareness of patients’ physical and emotional condition, reporting adverse signs to the on‑site physician. Ensures correct copying and distribution of films, routing to radiologists for formal interpretation. Maintains appropriate inventory levels of supplies and medications, removing outdated items. Keeps work area neat, orderly, and inventories supplies in the assigned area. Assists in maintaining patient medical records by completing all required documentation and forms, ensuring diagnostic reports are present. Enters and retrieves registration and other pertinent information into the computer. Handles multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritizing work. Performs Medical Assistant duties as necessary and following certification or proof of training: specimen collection, breath alcohol testing, PFTs, audiograms, phlebotomy, history‑taking, vision tests, and EKGs. Enters orders for all exams performed. Completes and documents super‑bill radiographic procedures. Performs other related duties that facilitate efficient medical care as directed by provider. Flexes to network sites as required to meet patient care needs. Has knowledge of patient care and emergency procedures. Tailors care according to age‑specific competencies. Participates in Quality Improvement activities as directed and performs routine calibration and quality control. Participates in continuing education programs and assigned meetings. Informs facility manager of equipment malfunctions or adjustment needs. Maintains licensure and certification, and participates in professional organizations. Ensures proper storage, labeling, and disposal of chemicals used in radiology procedures. Assists in ensuring billing encounter forms and flow sheets are accurate and complete. Attends staff meetings at clinic and system‑wide. Coordinates efficient use of examination rooms to maintain patient flow. Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

High School Diploma required. Satisfactory completion of an AMA Council on Medical Education approved School of Radiological Technology required. Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology required. Licensed by the Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety required. CPR certification required. Two or more years of experience in an ambulatory setting preferred. Experience with electronic documentation and retrieval of patient information preferred. Strong customer service skills with proven track record required. Detail oriented with demonstrated commitment to superior patient care required. Strong organizational and filing skills required. Strong communication skills to effectively communicate with patient population and care team. Proficiency in Microsoft Windows environment, including Word and Excel required. Ensures a safe environment for patients, family, staff, and visitors required. Ability to adjust quickly to workflow changes required. Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively required. Ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team required. Initiative to support patient advocacy required. Ability to mentor new staff as directed required.
