Licensed Clinical Therapist II-Public Defender

Job Overview San Bernardino County Public Defender invites qualified professionals to apply for the position of Licensed Clinical Therapist II. The Licensed Clinical Therapist provides specialized mental health services to clients under the Mental Health Diversion Program, pursuant PC 1001.36, who are represented by the Public Defender’s Office. The role supports both clients and Deputy Public Defenders through conducting clinical evaluations, diagnosing, and testifying. The position also facilitates case management services, assessments, and treatment planning, requiring clinical expertise to aid a fluid transition into mental health treatment. The Therapist works as part of a multidisciplinary team that may include attorneys, investigators, social service practitioners, and county agencies. The goal is to ensure clients receive holistic, trauma‑informed support that improves legal outcomes, enhances client well‑being, and promotes fairness within the justice system. Responsibilities Provide specialized mental health services to clients within the Mental Health Diversion Program. Conduct clinical evaluations, diagnoses, and testify in court proceedings. Facilitate case management services, assessments, and treatment planning. Provide clinical supervision hours for the Social Service Practitioner Unit and receive direct supervision from the Mental Health Program Manager. Collaborate with attorneys, investigators, and other county agencies as part of a multidisciplinary team. Qualifications Licensed in the State of California as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with an active, unrestricted, and good‑standing license. One (1) year of direct service post‑license experience, within the last five (5) years, as a licensed therapist in a mental health program or forensic justice‑involved program. Fluency in American Sign Language, Arabic, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish, Tagalog, and/or Vietnamese is strongly encouraged; additional compensation is associated with positions requiring the use of bilingual skills. Testing of bilingual skills is required to receive additional compensation. Desirable Experience Knowledge of clinical supervisor requirements. Minimum of fifteen (15) contact hours in supervision training. Two (2) or more years of experience providing clinical supervision to Registered Associate MFTs, Registered Associate PCCs, Registered Associate CSWs, or pre‑degree clinical interns within the last five (5) years. One (1) or more years of experience providing clinical or administrative supervision over clinical interns and/or trainees. Experience in a behavioral health or social service setting in a leadership role, either managing a special assignment or providing occasional supervisory coverage. Interagency collaboration experience. Education and/or training experience. Conditions of Employment Travel throughout the county may be required depending on assignment. Mileage reimbursement at current IRS rate is available. Applicants must produce and maintain a valid California driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance.
