About this Job General Summary of Position: The goal of the MedStar Sports Medicine Sports Physical Therapy Residency is to provide the physical therapy resident with an opportunity to develop advanced competence and clinical expertise in the specialty field of sports physical therapy. The resident will receive strong education in developing sports physical therapy theoretical rationale, evaluation, and treatment skills and clinical reasoning processes to promote the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries in an active patient population. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Develop sports physical therapy theoretical rationale, evaluation and treatment skills and clinical reasoning processes to promote prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries in an active patient population. Increase sports physical therapist skill set through didactic experience addressing each area of foundational knowledge in the APTA Description of Specialty Practice for Sports. Increase sports physical therapist clinical experience under the mentorship of sports physiatrists who specialize in sports medicine. Interact in all areas of sports medicine to include shadowing with sports medicine physicians and on-field experience with certified athletic trainers. Develop research skills to foster critical thinking and evidence-based practice crucial to our profession. Sit for and pass board examination as a clinical specialist in Sports Physical Therapy. Minimal Qualifications Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of Physical Therapy required. Education: Master's degree from an accredited school of Physical Therapy required. Education: Doctoral degree from an accredited school of Physical Therapy required. Experience 1–2 years clinical experience in an outpatient rehabilitation setting with demonstrated clinical expertise preferred. Professional competency as a physical therapist or new graduate with at least one year experience. Physical Therapist preferred. Licenses and Certifications PT – Physical Therapist licensure in Maryland, District of Columbia (DC) and/or Virginia as required. CPR – Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 days required. Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Professional competency as a general practitioner in physical therapy; demonstrates independent use of varied evaluation and treatment approaches. This position has a hiring range of : USD $74,214.0 – USD $134,596.00 /Yr. #J-18808-Ljbffr
