Field Service Technician I

Position Overview The role of the Field Service Technician I is to provide field support to clients, including commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, or retrofit of mechanical and electrical systems of a project. The position is responsible for troubleshooting mechanical and electrical equipment, as well as controls, communications, and computers, when called upon, and for documenting these procedures. It requires close interface with the Quality Department, Project Engineers, Project Managers, Process Engineers, client personnel, other Field Engineers, and Field Service Technicians. The Technician also assists in monitoring Quality Assurance requirements for completed equipment and may perform or oversee QC checks. The Technician will compile O&M information, transmit critical O&M data during the design and construction phases, and assist in compiling the final sets of IOM manuals. The Technician will provide commissioning of the mechanical portion of the project and will interface with Project Managers, Production Managers, QA Managers, Engineering Managers, clients, and consulting engineers. Cross‑training in controls and electrical systems is required. Key Job Responsibilities Compile O&M information Transmit critical O&M information during a project Assist in compiling the final sets of IOM manuals Provide field feedback as an integral part of the position Create legible red-line drawings to submit to Project Manager Arrange for a timely hand‑off from construction function Direct field commissioning of a project Trouble‑shoot all mechanical and electrical equipment Document commissioning of the mechanical and electrical portions (at a minimum) of the project Maintain close interface with Field Engineers, Project Engineers, Project Managers, mechanical and electrical engineers, service technicians, and client personnel Assist the Production Department in assembly or in training of factory personnel Assist in Quality Assurance and Quality Control functions Possibly perform or oversee QC checks Other responsibilities as designated by TAS Job Skills Ability to read drawings and schematics Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Office Projects Experience with at least one brand of PLC or building controls Capability to work independently at the job site Education & Training HVAC trade school and/or apprenticeship training preferred Military training and/or technical work experience may substitute trade school certification Minimum Requirements Significant project field experience in construction support, startup, repair, and maintenance work Experience verifying compliance with ASHRAE, ASME, and other relevant codes and practices Ability to travel extensively to domestic and international job sites Capability to work in field construction conditions Must have or be able to obtain safety certifications, including but not limited to OSHA10 General Construction and NFPA‑70E Safe driving record Physical Requirements / Work Environment Position is 80% travel, both domestic and international. Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Performs other physical activities, including use of fingers, sitting, stooping, bending, crouching, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Visual acuity requirements include color, depth perception, and field of vision needed to prepare and analyze data and figures, operate a computer terminal, and conduct extensive reading.
