Job Summary This position works under the general supervision of a physician, advanced practice provider, and/or nursing leadership to provide nursing services in care and treatment of patients requiring and/or potentially requiring Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) therapy. Preferred Bachelor's degree in nursing Experience with mechanical circulatory devices (IABP, Impella, LVAD) Previous charge nurse and/or leadership experience

Job Duties Respond to all ECMO cannulations outside the OR Operate the ECMO device and manage ECMO-related care for adults, children, and adolescents on ECMO including, but not limited to: ECMO circuit set up, priming, and initiation of ECMO support; interpretation of ABGs and adjustment of ECMO flow, gases, and temperature; accessing the ECMO circuit as needed for therapies such as CRRT and plasmapheresis; continuous ECMO and patient data monitoring and interpretation including hemodynamics, ECMO parameters, labs, and imaging; patient and circuit assessments, care, and maintenance; emergency interventions to any part of the ECMO circuitry Round on high-risk patients in CUH, to include code blue activations, ECMO watch patients and patients on mechanical circulatory support Participate in multidisciplinary rounds on all current ECMO patients and provide patient and/or family education as needed Provide support during PT/OT, bedside procedures, traveling off unit, etc. Monitor ECMO equipment for appropriate care and function, including adequate stock of disposable equipment and restocking of all emergency ECMO carts Assist with development of policies, procedures and clinical standards of care related to the ECMO program. Abide by all protocols and procedures governing the care of any patient Assist in the training and onboarding of other ECMO clinicians Quality Improvement initiatives and research Maintain communication with ECMO leadership team and escalation of safety events Maintain all competencies and continuing education requirements as set forth by the ECMO Program Perform other duties as assigned When caring for ECMO patients as the assigned ECMO Specialist, adhere to the Critical Care RN Job Duties as follows: ... Perform and accurately document physical, psychosocial, and emotional assessments. All assessments take into consideration age specific criteria (children, adolescents, adults, and older adults). Actively anticipate patients and/or patients' family needs and expectations, and utilize these in conjunction with the assessment to develop an appropriate plan of care for the patient. Identify and implement appropriate nursing interventions based on the completed assessment. Complete accurate and timely documentation of these interventions. Actively coordinate the interdisciplinary plan of care. Appropriately prioritize nursing interventions based upon completed assessment. Promptly identify changes in condition as evidenced by nursing assessment, labs, x-rays, etc. Report changes, take follow-up action as appropriate. Evaluate implemented interventions and modify care according to the evaluation. Document interventions and modifications to the plan of care in an accurate and timely manner. Adhere to appropriate hospital and/or Department of Nursing policies, procedures, clinical pathways, and nationally accepted standards of nursing practice. Incorporate ANA standards into the provision of safe, quality patient care. Practice in accordance with professional practice model "Relationship Based Care" and deliver care using the care delivery system "PACE" — Patient Focused, Accountable, Coordinated and Continuous and Evidence Based. Provide appropriate and timely answers and/or education to patients, patients' families, significant others and/or caregivers. Complete accurate and timely documentation of all education provided including discharge plan of care. Welcome and orient patient, family, significant other and/or caregiver to the unit. Encourage patient/family participation in care. Review personalized patient plan of care with patient/family every shift. Update white boards accordingly and set daily goals with patient input. Explain special diets, tests, procedures and medications in an easily understood and appropriate language. Make hourly rounds on patients and communicate when they will return. Duties performed may include one or more of the following core functions: a) Directly interacting with or caring for patients; b) Directly interacting with or caring for human-subjects research participants; c) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting patient records; or d) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting human-subjects research records. Perform other duties as assigned.
