About the Position

Job Title: RN - ICU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years of ICU RN experience required License: Current RN license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required. CCRN preferred but not required Must-Have: - Tracheostomy care - Chest tube management - Peripheral IV starts - Glucommander usage - Insulin and heparin drip management - Management of vasoactive medications - Monitoring and management of invasive lines - Assistance in a variety of bedside procedures - Ventilator support management Description: Seeking an RN for the Intensive Care Unit. This facility features 637 licensed beds and is a Level 1 Trauma Designation teaching hospital. The unit consists of 14 beds with a census of approximately 14 patients. Common diagnoses include respiratory failure, renal failure, sepsis, GI bleed, DKA, hypotension, hypertension, stroke, pneumonia, cancer, ARDS, and overdoses. Patients may include those on chronic ventilators and tracheostomy care. Staffing ratios are typically 1:1-2, with rare instances of 3. Certified Nursing Assistants are available to assist with vital signs, glucose checks, baths, feeding, and ambulating patients. A unit secretary is present during designated hours. There are 24/7 respiratory therapists, hospitalists, and intensivists available. Telemetry monitoring is centralized. Technological support includes an electronic medical record system, IV pumps, and various monitoring devices. Float requirements may include all adult ICU units within the facility. The unit culture is characterized by a busy environment that encourages teamwork.
