Advanced Practice Provider Lead (NP/PA) - Inpatient Cardiac Surgery - Rotational

Scope of Position The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Lead works with APP and Division leadership and will function in liaison, oversight, and mentoring roles for other advanced practice providers. Administrative and reporting responsibilities are provided as per department expectations. The APP Lead interacts with the division workforce at large on issues related to advanced practice providers, mentors other APRNs and PAs, and serves as the designated expert for advanced practice within the division. The lead provides clinical and day‑to‑day leadership and mentoring in matters relating to advanced practice and the professional development of APRNs or PAs, acting as the liaison between the APRN/PAs and upper‑level advanced practice management (APP Manager and APP Director). The APP Lead is responsible for providing health care services to patients within the parameters of a standard care or supervisory agreement with an attending physician member of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. The APP collaborates with physicians and other clinicians to provide a full scope of patient care, focusing on preventive health or the management of acute and/or stable chronic conditions. The lead performs medical services that have been specifically authorized and directed by the credentialing body and the certifying organization through which they hold licensure. Position Summary The APP Lead provides health care services to patients working in collaboration with a licensed physician member of the medical staff. Healthcare services include care during acute and chronic phases of illness, education, counseling of individuals and families, health promotion and prevention, and referral to other healthcare providers and community resources when appropriate. Minimum Qualifications Current certificate of authority to practice as an APRN in the State of Ohio Graduate of an APRN program that qualifies the graduate to sit for the certification examination of a national certifying organization recognized by the Ohio Board of Nursing Master of Science Degree in Nursing 2 years of APP experience required. Acute Care NP preferred. 2-4 years of cardiac surgery experience preferred. OR Masters Prepared; Graduate of a PA‑C program that qualifies the graduate to sit for the certification examination recognized by the National Certification Commission for Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Eligibility for State of Ohio licensure as a PA‑C 2 years of APP experience required. 2-4 years of cardiac surgery experience preferred. This is a leadership role designed to support the operational, clinical, and professional needs of Advanced Practice Providers who participate in nocturnal and rotational scheduling. The position works in close collaboration with the Cardiac Surgery APP Leadership team to ensure high‑quality, consistent patient care across all hours. It shares administrative responsibilities with the existing APP Lead, provides structured leadership presence during night shifts, and serves as the primary liaison for nocturnal and rotational APPs. The role requires participation in a rotational schedule, including nights, to maintain alignment with frontline clinical operations and team needs. Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check. A drug screen or physical may be required during the post offer process.
