Sports Program Assistant

Temporary, Part-time position Performs a variety of part time clerical, administrative, customer service, public contact and organizational development projects, including minor maintenance work, in the City of Moab Recreation Department. General Purpose Performs a variety of part time clerical, administrative, customer service, public contact and organizational development projects, including minor maintenance work, in the City of Moab Recreation Department. Reporting Relationships Supervision Received: The Sports Program Assistant works under the general supervision of the Sports Manager and Sports Assistant and, when needed, the Parks, Recreation and Trails Director. Supervision Exercised: The Sports Program Assistant works with the Sports Manager to supervise the activities of volunteers, coaches, paid officials, part time maintenance crews, other part time staff and scorekeepers. Essential Functions Supports the day-to-day functions of Sports and other Recreation Programs and Facilities Operated by the City of Moab by attending and overseeing evening and weekend sporting events organized by the Moab Sports Dept. Performing general administrative and customer service support. Assisting with recreation equipment inventory control and maintenance. Assist with coordination of activities & duties of volunteer coaches. This involves assisting with training and supervising officials for all sports activities; coordination and execution of special recreational and community activities and events; assistance in overseeing adult sports programs within the Recreation Department under the direction of the Sports Manager and Sports Assistant, and assisting with development of new programs and activities. Other related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience High school diploma Two (2) years of experience with recreation programming Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Working knowledge of sports offered and applicable rules and guidelines Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with city employees, volunteers and the public Special Qualifications (Licenses, Certifications, etc.) Upon employment, must possess a valid Utah driver's license Any offer of employment is expressly conditioned upon the successful completion of a preemployment drug/alcohol screening Work Environment and Physical Demands Outdoor activities will be required. Tasks may entail muscular strain, including walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, and lifting. Talking, hearing, and seeing are essential to performing job requirements. Common eye, hand and finger dexterity is required for most essential functions.
