Responsibilities include:
- Assess patients across various demographicspediatric, adult, and geriatricusing both standardized assessments and observational strategies.
- Create individualized therapy plans targeting both immediate objectives and long-term communication, cognitive, or swallowing goals.
- Deliver focused one-on-one speech therapy targeting elements such as communication, language, fluency, voice, and swallowing.
- Collaborate closely with physical therapists, occupational therapists, nurses, physicians, families, and caregivers to develop unified care plans.
- Educate patients and their families to support therapeutic advancements outside the confines of clinical settings.
- Contribute to sporadic inpatient evaluations and interventions to ensure seamless care throughout the recovery journey.
- Document patient information accurately and punctually, adhering to established state, federal, and organizational guidelines.
- Remain informed about the latest advancements in the field through ongoing education and collaboration with peers.
Educational requirements include:
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited institution.
- Completion of a supervised Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) is required for those not yet holding ASHA certification.
Certifications needed include:
- State licensure as a Speech Language Pathologist.
- ASHA's Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) is preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained within the first 30 days of employment.
Skills required include:
- Strong command of evidence-based practices suitable for all age groups, with keen awareness of developmental and acquired speech, language, and swallowing disorders.
- Exceptional interpersonal communication skills with patients, their families, and interdisciplinary teams.
- Flexibility in adapting therapy methods to suit a range of cultural and linguistic contexts.
- Strong clinical reasoning and problem-solving capabilities.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records and documentation protocols.
