In 2021, Depop became a wholly‑owned subsidiary of Etsy. Role Overview We are seeking a practical, commercially‑mindful lawyer to support Depop’s ambitious growth strategy in the US. The successful candidate will be a key legal partner to marketing and product teams in a rapidly evolving regulatory environment. Responsibilities Work with product and marketing teams to design new products and tools while balancing commercial, marketing, compliance and privacy concerns. Advise and identify risks for marketing, creative and campaign initiatives. Evaluate risks and opportunities related to media assets, including global and domestic marketing campaigns, influencer and affiliate programs, TV/radio/ad‑out‑of‑home, talent and SAG‑AFTRA concerns, UGC, content clearance, technology partnerships, merchandise vetting, music licensing, and content distribution. Provide expert legal counsel on U.S. product matters, including product strategy, operations and expansion. Counsel business, product, engineering, and marketing teams on U.S. consumer protection laws, regulatory matters, privacy and marketing regulations. Collaborate with product managers, engineers, designers and other stakeholders to identify, evaluate and mitigate legal risks in new feature development and launch. Review and negotiate general commercial agreements, including marketing agreements for U.S. operations. Contribute to the review and improvement of legal team processes, templates and guidance to drive efficiencies in U.S. compliance. Assist with U.S. regulatory inquiries, investigations and litigation related to product and compliance issues. Other tasks and responsibilities may arise and change over time in accordance with Etsy’s discretion or local law. Qualifications JD and admitted to a state bar (preferably NY or CA) and qualified to work in‑house in New York. Six or more years’ experience, ideally split between a law firm and in‑house, dealing with consumer protection, marketing, product development and U.S. regulatory compliance for technology and e‑commerce companies. Prior experience with online marketplaces, social media platforms or high‑growth technology businesses is highly desirable. Ability to work autonomously and prioritize a dynamic task list with a solutions‑driven approach. Excellent business, negotiation and communication skills with the ability to explain complex legal advice clearly and commercially. Executive presence and passion for articulating risk and mitigation strategies to clients and executives. Availability to work in the Brooklyn office once or twice per week.
