Medical Assistant (MA) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Clinic - Pediatrics

Department 01450 AMG Sheboygan - Pediatrics Job Status Part time – 24 hours per week (Monday‑Friday 07:45‑17:15, hours vary based on department needs). Pay Range: $24.10 - $36.15 Major Responsibilities Prepare and room patients for exam by obtaining vitals and gathering/documents/updating pertinent health information (chief complaint, allergies, medications). Monitor and complete Clinical Integration/Quality Improvement measures, notifying clinicians of opportunities within scope. Perform laboratory procedures (strep test, wound culture, specimen collection, etc.) using aseptic technique and infection control guidelines. Assist Physician/APC with procedures such as pelvic exams, allergy scratch testing, EMG, cautery, colposcopy, etc. Administer routine medications under Physician/APC orders or standing orders/protocols, including immunizations, antibiotics, vitamins, topical agents. Follow up on necessary procedure or test requests, pre‑approved care algorithms, new appointment times, and referrals to other facilities or services. Refer questions to Registered Nurses and Physician/APC as per scope of practice guidelines and relay information back to patient. Communicate with Physician/APC and other health‑care team members to ensure smooth clinic flow and adjust as necessary. Perform basic and advanced clinical support tasks or skills appropriate to specialty, such as removal of sutures or staples, phlebotomy (butterfly, heel stick), EKG, spirometry, Holter monitor application, prescription refills under protocols, etc., under clinical supervision. Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary for age‑appropriate care, assess data reflecting patient status, and provide care aligned with age‑specific needs according to department policies and procedures. Licenses & Certifications LPN: Licensed Practical Nurse with an active state license and Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification obtained within 45 days of hire, unless exempted by department leader. Medical Assistant: Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification obtained within 45 days of hire, unless exempted by department leader. Education and/or Degrees Required For LPN – Advanced training beyond high school, completion of an accredited or approved Practical Nursing program. For Medical Assistant – GED or high‑school equivalency diploma, completion of an accredited or approved Medical Assistant program, or 2 years of verifiable full‑time experience as a Medical Assistant within the last 5 years. Military/Veteran Friendly Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within Medical Assistant scope of practice after demonstrated competency. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to develop rapport and maintain positive, professional relationships with patients, team members, and physicians. Proficient computer skills including keyboarding, navigation within a Windows operating system, and use of electronic mail; exposure to electronic medical records systems. Demonstrates customer service skills supporting a positive patient experience. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Must sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach above shoulders throughout the workday. Ability to lift 35 pounds without assistance; for patient lifts over 35 pounds, patient handling equipment is expected to be used with at least one other team member when available. Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with ability to use fine‑hand manipulation skills. Will be exposed frequently to mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood, and body fluids. Must wear protective clothing and equipment as needed; operate all equipment necessary to perform the job.
